CMWingfield
Making the transition from R1150RT to the R1200GS has led me to realize that one of the weakest components on the GS is the wimpy horn. The RT had a real horn, while the GS horn is pathetic. Is it possible to swap out an RT horn for the one on the GS without major Canbus issues? Thanks, Mike Link to comment
MattS
Crazy, but you might trade one set of issues for another. Link to comment
CMWingfield
Thanks Matt, Obviously BMW Motorrad engineers were smoking something on horn design day. Mike Link to comment
H C Edwards
Guys on the UK GS site said the Stebel magnum is a replacement for the original, fits in the same spot, no relay needed, and gave it good reviews. Here's a description: http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=STB-MAG&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=4 I see it's also carried by Adventurers Workshop here in the US. I've been thinking of trying it. Link to comment
Ken H.
I have the Stebel compact air horn on our new 12GS. It is relayed in because of the high current of it. It took a bit of fiddling to get the right load impedance added to the horn circuit (now with only a relay) so the CAN-BUS monitor wouldn't shut the port down with only a short beep. But I did get it. The Stebel Magnum might not have that problem though. Link to comment
DILLIGAF
Check out the PIAA horn at the bottom of the page in this link. http://www.piaa.com/Powersports/piaa-powersports/custom_applications.html I looked at at sample that Shean had at the CycleGadgets booth at the Nationals and it looks lik it will fit the original horn location on the GS and does not require a relay.
