NumbHands
Hi, I see the manual calls for a special tool to open the bleed valves on the ABS brake control unit. I am beginning to see why, after trying to use a short length 7mm box. I got nothing to get these loose! They seem torqued way over 7nm. Any recommendations on a tool to use for this process? Thanks to all of you who have gone before! Michael Link to comment
NoHeat
I always use a flare-nut wrench for bleed screws. The screws are often so soft that an open end wrench will just round them off. Link to comment
4wheeldog
I crack 'em with a six point socket, then manipulate them with a 12 point box wrench. Tight, but doable with patience. Link to comment
Linz
I use Metrinch tools almost exclusively for these kind of applications on very soft nuts and walled screws. The force is placed on the wall of the screw and not on the shoulder so they never "round off" the corners. All of my bikes appear factory fresh as the nuts and bolts appear never to have been touched. www.metrinch.com and no, not affiliated. Linz Link to comment
David R
Snap on calls that "Flank Drive". I always use s 6 point socket on bleeders to break them loose. David Link to comment

Michael Make sure they are flank drive types, even quality tools will round off corners of small fasteners. Andy Link to comment
NumbHands
I give up. Cannot find a flank type in 7mm. Is there an English equivalent? I suppose I could do the math... Michael Link to comment

Fugu
I use plain old 6 point sockets to break those loose but extra insurance would be nice. Mine were way tight the first time. Link to comment
NumbHands
Thanks Linz and AndyS. I was trying to find something locally but it looks like the Web is best for sourcing. Michael Link to comment
