Donster
What is the preferred way to mount a zumo (Garmin 550)on top of the R1200RT "dashboard", in my line of sight? I saw a photo of this setup somewhere and it looks just about perfect. Link to comment
yempaul
I'm on BMR products. Less vibration. Doesn't take your eyes away from front view. http://www.bmrproducts.com/proddetail.php?prod=010_CPR1200RT&cat=31 Link to comment
aggieengineer
I've used the dash mount (Motorrad Concepts) and the BMW between-the-bars mount. Each is a compromise. The Motorrad mount is just perfect for viewing, close to the normal line of sight, and no glare. It just vibrated more than I like when riding over bumps. I use the BMW mount now. Not quite as elegant, but solid. If you decide you want the dash mount, drop me a line before splurging for a new one. I'll sell mine for half the going price. Link to comment

Zoom
I'll get some pics of my setup. Mine is mounted on one of the handle bar screws. It works very well. Simple and cheap. Link to comment
Roadwolf
I have the Migsel Mount for my 06 RT and love it... pictures are here: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=46362&Number=506198#Post506198 Can be purchased here: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?item=RAM-BA Link to comment
Beemer_Nancy
I have a Migsel mount on mine but when I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago there was an RT in the parking lot with the BMR mount, Zumo, XM antenna and radar detector all mounted. Gotta say I LOVED that setup. Everything was nice and high off the instruments, in a neat stepwise pattern. Much less vibration that I have too (although it doesn't bother me in the least). Made me wish I'd gone with the BMR. Looked like a simple mounting job as well. Link to comment
nbooth
I've installed this setup from the Gadget Guy...It works well, but has a bit more vibration than I expected. http://www.gadgetguy.net/PhotoGallery/BMW_R1200RT_KitIX_EJII_BPII_Zumo/BMW_R1200RT_with_Zumo.html Link to comment
krussell
Two more comments on the BMR shelf. 1) It's easy to install/remove as required. 2) It has a lot of room and options for mounting all kinds of toys, consider your budget and self control prior to purchase! Link to comment
Tapatio
I manufactured one myself for about $13. Linky Link to comment
smtroy
+1 for the Gadget Guy mount. I've just bought a Valentine Radar Detector. Enough room above the dash to mount both side by side and have plenty of visibility over the top. Link to comment
valvman
I had the migsel but found it much too bouncy. Installed the BMR shelf system. This unit significantly reduced bounce and vibration.I attribute this to the side brackets that extend down to two hard points. I have the Zumo 660 an Escort, and a super bright optical indicator mounted to it w/ good result. It still looses some rigidity due to the upper mount points being only attached to plastic but you can't have it all. Another plus is that the Zumo is in a very good viewing position.Get the gps bracket too though you'll need to add a spacer for mounting the 660 mount. Dave '08 R1200rt Link to comment
krussell
Get the gps bracket too though you'll need to add a spacer for mounting the 660 mount. Once I figured out the right bits to mount the 660, I sent the details off to Brett at BMR, as well as Gadget Guy. Brett and I had several emails exchanged, I assume he is providing the necessary spacers with the GPS mount if you buy a new one. I didn't get any response from gadget guy, I assume he had something else in mind. One thing about the 660 on the BMR mount, it looks slightly hideous from the rider view because the some rivets and the hinge and other stuff shows below the 660. I have several pics at http://krussell.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/z660-mount/8172377_WeUU6/1/533566469_tQQUH. Link to comment

Also, what is the going price? I stopped by my dealer at lunch today and ordered the BMW bracket that attaches with the inner four handlebar bolts. But it's not really line of sight, and now that I think about it, with the BMW bracket the zumo may be obscured by the tank bag. I didn't think to ask. Link to comment

I have the BMW mount you ordered (betwen the bars). I could not see my Zumo when the BMW tank bag was on. I went to a 16L RKA tank bag and now I can see it. Link to comment
