Kannon
My '78 R 100/7 with almost 200,000 miles on it has a small problem. After riding for about 3 or 4 miles the bike felt like it was running out of gas, I figured out that the tank wasn't venting (Runs good with the gas cap loose). It appears that the tank vents through the cap but I'm not sure how. It is also not clear how the gas cap comes appart. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? The cap looks to be a rather expensive piece and I would rather fix it than replace it. Thanks, Link to comment
elkroeger
I used to have a r100/7 some time ago. I'm pretty sure the gas caps don't come apart (without destroying it). It seems to me there was a vent somewhere else on the tank (look underneath). But don't put too much faith in my fading memory.... Better yet, go here: http://www.boxerworks.com/ Link to comment
StuGotz
Some models vent via the keyhole. Make sure that is clear. Sometimes a tankbag may interfere with venting. The tanks have an overflow underneath. The hose routes to the rear and down near the gusset at the frame by the pivots. Good luck MB> Link to comment
