Hotter-N-Hell Tech Daze - Austin, TX Sat. Aug. 1

Limecreek

Recommended Posts

Fellow Texans,

If you'd like to learn how to service your R11-R12 or your old and new school Ks, look no further.

We will get started early Saturday morning and work until we run out of bikes to service.

I will make sure to have plenty of doughnuts and coffee on hand in the morning and plenty of cold drinks throughout the day. Lunch will be served around 1:00.

It will be hot, so bring something comfortable to change into. I'll have chairs, fans and shade. You'll need to bring tools if you have them and your service items. I am also willing to change tires, but you'll need to haul off your old skins.

I'll ask for a donation of $20 to cover lunch, drinks and msc. supplies.

Sign up here.

Shucks, Greg, I thought "Hotter-Hell was a bike (bicycle) ride?? Tech daze sounds a lot easier. I did 8 of the others.

Hi Greg,

Planning to attend if I can resolve a scheduling conflict; will confirm by the 20th.

I'll pm you if I'm coming & see if there's any stuff I can bring along.

Looking forward to it!

I probably won't need any service done, but I'll try to make it. I can bring a couple of torque wrenches.

Hi Dave -- Please pass on the invitation to the Hill Country BMW Rider group.

My bike needs to be serviced. But I probably won't make it. Since we will be getting home the day before from the 50th state.

Maybe I will take it up to Steve's and let him ride it over there and service it for me...

Hi Greg. I was hoping for some help trying to get my R12RT to idle smoother. Hope we can look at this. Let me know any suggestions on items that I should bring.

Look forward to seeing you and Sandy.

Thanks Bob Buck

Greg,

I'm hoping to make it as well. I'll let you know for sure the week of. I don't need any service, but I'll help where I can. Thank you for hosting another Tech Daze!

Brad and all--so far we have 5 attending, but no service needed, so this could turn out to be a coffee and doughnut tech day and or a ride for pie or breakfast here locally.

I'll keep you all posted.

I'm doing my Hotter n' Hell tech day/work now. Jeez it's hot in my garage!

Gotta rebuild a Throttle Body before I can go ride. New shaft and bushings going in.

When that's done, Miss Vicki and I would like to ride down early Sat morning, 8/1, for the Hot Donut Tech Session.

I've been braggin' about your nice home and the scenic views all around. I guess she couldn't stand it and wants to tag along this time!

We'll probably get a room and return home early Sunday a.m., in an effort to beat the heat.

You haven't moved have you?

And BTW... I gotta hear about that SuperBike trip!

Later,

I've been following the thread, and might take the ride up. But I don't need anything either, just come by to visit.

Greg, I am about 90% sure I'll be there! Don't need any work done, but I have been working on an experimental tailbone friendly seat for the RT. Might be the perfect test ride for it. I'll follow up next week.

To all--I haven't moved. If this is your first time coming, send me a note and I'll send you our address. We are now on all the e-maps, Garmin Maps and so on.

Still no tech needed for the tech day....kinda of funny. I guess we could all check tire air pressure or have a long discussion about the correct oil type and viscosity or see who can be the first to wheelie their RT to K out in front of my house......

Sandi and I are looking forward to seeing you all. Next one will not be until January. 108304160.jpg

Actually Greg... My rear tire on the RT is starting to go flat in the center. Since you have the machine, I just might do that once service. ;-)

Greg,

Count me in for 12k on 08 r1200rt. I have done the oil change already. Not quite sure of all the parts I need. Came to your last Tech Daze and really enjoyed all, especially your warm hospitality. Count me in.

Minor highjack: A fellow by the name of Rick Butler here in Dallas "adjusted" my after-market Touratech "Kahedo" seat to be more tail-bone friendly.

For $40.00. Honest. He did a great job too; apparently he's been doing it for Yamaha's for quite a while. Folks sent them their seats from all over the country. If you want more info. about him let me know.

Oh MAN!!! Seeing that picture makes me REALLY sad I'm going to miss your "hot donut and tire changing party"!:rofl::cry:

I'm even going to be on my way to the UnRally gathering up Pied Piper Riders at Jan and Sharon's place in SLC and I'm still bummed I can't be in two places at once!

You guys have fun and we'll miss you at the UnRally! Maybe Les and I will take the southern route back home and stop by to see if Greg's got any leftover donuts!

Dang, I'm picking up a new 09 1200GS this next week and that would work out great but I'm heading north to Sturgis on the 29th so looks like it will be January for my first tech day.

My 60K service was completed not long ago but the way I've been racking up miles, I may be ready to do the 66K service by the time the tech daze happens.

I just picked up a GS911, I don't know if folks have seen this unit, but it's pretty slick. If people haven't seen it, then we can do at least something that looks technical. ;)

Hey Wayne,

I have the GS 911, but don't get a chance to play with a 1200 on it much. Go ahead and bring it. I'd like to see us play with it and I can pick up some skills on it's usage.

Hey Greg,

Is the breakfast run just a joke, or were you really thinking of a running one and then returning to the house to complete Tech Day?

Just wondering if I need to get up earlier and make it down in time for Eggs n' Ham!

Well, we have 3 bikes on the menu now--general service and a tire change or two, so the breakfast plan is back to a box of Dunkins at the Clark house.

Looking ahead to Jan.; I'll demo valve check procedure on a late model K. Will you have a K by then? ;)

Not! I just spent $200 fixing this one. With that much invested, I think I'll keep it for a while.

Hi Greg,

I'm new to BMW's and plan to attend. Areas of interest with my R1150RT is valve adjustments, TB synch, ABS bleed. Please forward the address for the Tech-Daze gathering.

Dude.... I am in. Got to do a tire change and oil change, and give Grandpa some hell too.

Hey, Grandpa gave you some hell already! Stealing his coffee... :D

Greg, I'll be there and I'll sponsor the coffee too.

Will bring the twinmax and assist with the tire changes and older technollogy bikes... (the oilhead RT's)

All I need is a tire change. If my rear shock gets back from its trip to Califa, mebbe I'll bring it and install it, everyone can see how to disconnect (or reconnect) the ESA, R&R shocks without removing the rear tire. Y'all can admire my one-of-a-kind brake flasher. I'll bring along the normal assortment of tune-up tools:

How about a breakfast ride Sunday? Any out-of-towners, we have plenty of room at our house if you want to stay over. Just send me a PM.

Update:

The Bad News; Sandi will not be making lunch for us, so we will take up a collection and send someone in my truck for BBQ, or ride down when we are finished with the bikes.

The Good News; It is still going to be Hotter-N-Hell Saturday--101-104 in the shade; so we do not need to change the name of the event.

Make sure to bring shorts!

See you all Saturday.

Uh, Greg? You already LIVE in Austin. My offer for lodging was for out-of-towners.

So how does this sound:

TO THE BAT CAVE, ROBIN! Alamo Springs Cafe , AKA the Bat Cave Cafe, south of Fredericksburg. Austin to Blanco, west on that great set of sweepers, south to Sisterdale, west on 473 to the Old Tunnel Road, AKA Old San Antonio Road, north to the Bat Cave.

They open at 10:00, serve breakfast, also have Top Ten State burgers. A little bit longer route would be out to Wimberley via 1826/Driftwood, then across Devil's Backbone to 473, take 473 out to Sisterdale, etc.

Or, there's an IHOP on MoPac near Zilker Park.

The Bat Cave is actually an abandoned train tunnel, home to a gazillion bats, who will all be napping when we get there. Hysterical markers at the site describe the history of the railroad line, quite interesting. The Old San Antonio Road is very scenic, with a number of early settlers' homes still in use.

Sandi is already a heck of a Trooper, she'd be way over the line of duty fixing lunch for so many adventurous bellies.

I've told Karla about this and she's volunteered to make us a big old pot of Borracho Beans, Monterrey style. These beans are laden with good stuff like BEER, chorizo, bacon, salted pork, grill links (kinda like hot dogs, but these are mexican style and really don't have any dog in'em), and jalapeños. So the good thing about them in hot weather is that you'll feel cooler because your innards will be hotter than the outside temperature, and they also help in keeping the ventilation going.

Greg, you got my best side in that photo. ;-)

See ya Saturday. I opted to have the tire shipped to my house. That way I can figure out how to get it to your house and return the old tire to my house ahead of time.

Their burgers are very good but I've been very disappointed the two times I had breakfast there.

Guys - Lime Creek road from Volente to Anderson Mill road was recently chip sealed and there is a lot of loose gravel all over the road.

Use caution if Lime Creek is on your route on the way to my house.

Cheers!

I won't disclose my sob story here, but those of you who feel entitled to harangue me feel free to e-mail me.

Greg, I still will sponsor the coffee. Just gotta think of a way to make it available to you.

Polo is going to bring coffee, a thermos deal like at restaurants, and cups to my house, along with (I think) wheel and tire he needs changing. I'll be at Greg's by 8:00:

Sorry you can't make it Polo. No need to make a special trip for coffee. I still have the bag you gave me from a couple of weeks ago. I just haven't been in town enough to use it.

Folks,

I won't disclose a sob story here...

But I will!!!

I have to bail out also  (this happens too often doesn't it?)

Our HR Dept had to escort one of my co-workers out the door today. Bu-bye!

That means I have to do their work in addition to mine. Prob... It's the end of the month and all our stuff is time sensitive. So, I get to work all weekend!

Not all bad. It'll be OT and that's when they pay me closer to what I'm worth

Might make enough this weekend to plan a trip down when the weather cools off. Can you say Perini Ranch? I knew you could...

I'm bringin a couple quests with me.

Who's gonna supervise my 12K?????

Bring your camera....it's gonna be a first for me.
