BalancePoint
My 98 R1100R is sitting on 30K miles, 12K of which I've put on in the past year. I have no maintenance records predating my ownership of the bike. I have the slightest bit of 9-3 rear wheel play and the common rear seal weep on the final drive boot, but no other issues. My question is: Is it advisable or recommended to pull apart the rear end and grease the splines, inspect and grease the u-joints, and so on? Are they more or less permanently lubed? What's considered standard practice, if anything? Link to comment
smiller
The u-joints are permanently lubed, and the factory lube on the driveshaft splines lasts a long time, I wouldn't pull the thing apart just for that. You may want to adjust the pivot bearing preload though as there should be no play. Link to comment
