SweetP
After reaching the Splugenpass and Switzerland (evidenced by one lone man inside a wood shack--wonder what horrible thing he did), what went up from Chiavenna had to come down. I snapped this photo from the road and it's not bad, but if you'd like to see a much better one, GoogleEarth, query Splugen Pass, go north a bit to where the twisties start, then click on the photo on the right side. Someone who calls him/herself 'dibidooly' got a better vantage point. I overnighted near Chur then headed toward Oberalppass. This helio was ferrying supplies to a mountain trekking camp. Nice job. Down from Oberalppass to Andermatt, then turned north and followed the canyon to the turnoff for Sustenpass. Sustenpass is my favorite. Here's why. The road seen to the right of the lake takes you toward the base of the glacier. Climbable, if you have the right shoes. The black dots clumped together on the ice are not penguins, they're peeps. Hang gliding over lake Thun. Final stretch toward home. This is the heart of Burgundy. Thanks for coming along everyone! Link to comment

Francois_Dumas
Thanks Paul ! The Berner Oberland has been my home away from home for 20 years in my youth and is still my favorite place if I'd had to chose just ONE place on earth. We lived over the Tuner See, looking out over Interlaken and onto the Big Three across the valleys: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. When I was young you didn't have to climb up to that glacier. It ended where the road was !! Very fond and distant memories. Link to comment
