Shoei ears?

I recently returned from a 6-day, 2,000 mi. ride with friends through southern Utah. There was lots of on/off of helmets for eating, drinking, picture taking, etc. Usually for multi-day rides I wear the HJC Sy-max II which I find to be very comfortable. This time however I wore the full-face Shoei X-11. It was very comfortable too, but the frequent on/off just about wore the skin off my (normal size) ears! It became painful to put the helmet on, and even more so to remove it. Is this something specific to Shoei? The X-11 is fine for routine 1-day rides, but I'm curious to know whether all Shoei's could be this painful under these circumstances. (An Arai-wearing friend seemed to have no similar problem).

Same problem with my Arai. Just wear a helmet liner and the problem will go away. And the helmet interior will stay clean.

+1 Sliks helmet liners.

+10... love the slicks liners. SOOO COMFY. Bonus on really hot days: soak it with water and let the evaporation cool your head.
