Recomendation for ride - NH to East VA?

Would like any suggestions for a scenic ride from Boston area to Rockville, MD. About 6 days available.

Looking at the map, I thought that I might up to Maine; cut over to White Mountains in NH; and then maybe follow the Appalachians down. I'm not familiar with the NE U.S.

From NYC area south, head a bit west, follow the Delaware River south, into the Delaware Water Gap.

 

Also, cross the Hudson at Bear Mountain, there's a very nice state park on the other side there. (also no traffic on that bridge, unlike every bridge south of there.)
