Winshield tearoffs

Recommended Posts

For those of you dirt bikers or road racers that are familiar with the tearoffs that are used on your helmet, or those of you that have seen the winshield tearoffs that are used in NASCAR, there is a possibility that something like this could be made for motorcycles, but some market research needs to be done.

So, I was wondering if anybody would be interested in a tearoff system for your BMW?

If so, how much would you be willing to pay for such a system?

How many layers would you want in a stack?

Please respond in this post. Also, let me know if you would be interested in prototype testing. Thanks.

one problem is where do you put the tear off?

if it's that dirty i doubt anyone is going to tuck it safely away in their riding gear till the next stop.

The compound curves of motorcycle windshields would make tear-offs a challenge. Applying three of them might take longer than washing the windshield five times.

In stock car racing, they must spend a lot of time before the race applying the tear-offs, but if it saves 1/10 second in the pits, it's worth it.

Colour me skeptical.

Why does any BMW rider need tear-offs for the windshield? They are not that hard to clean. And besides, the only time I actually look "through" the windshield is at parking lot speed in parking lots or when stopped. At speed, I'm looking over it and far down the road.

Its for the helmet windscreen... Hello are you there? ;-)

Well, a Google search for helmet tear-offs returns 27,000 hits. Helmet tear-offs are easy to find.

etc, etc, etc

Either way, I think Jim's criticism is very important. Helmet tear-offs encourage littering.

No, I am talking about tearoffs that would actually go on the winshield of the motorcycle, not your helmet. They would be bonded into a stack of say 4 tearoffs, so one installation process would give 4 layers to tear off.

I don't know about anybody else, but I REALLY hate cleaning the bugs off my screen after a long days ride, and thought that with the tearoffs, you just peel a layer, and no more bugs. They would also protect the screen from scratches and pitting.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Now we know what you're talking about Dan blush.gif. Interesting concept. The only tear-offs I've seen advertised are to convert your clear screen to tinted, but they adhere to the INSIDE of the helmet screen.

I also hate cleaning bugs every gas stop, and adding a stack of tear-offs on the outside of the screen sounds great, but somehow I really doubt you could keep it optically correct due to their compound curvatures. I also think they'd take longer to install than to clean the screen. And then the cost. It's a great idea, but don't think it's viable. Good day.

How about tear offs for the tupperware? I don't mind cleaning the windshield occasionally, but folks like Russell and I hate having to clean the bike.

There was a neat hint on this in the BMWMOA ON. Clean the shield and apply a 'food wrap'. (You name the brand.) Then as you gas up, remove and re apply. This person carries a box with him on the long rides.
