Radar Detector Poll

Not to start an argument, but the V1 is not the only detector that can track multiple sources...my X50 can track up to eight at one time ...2 Ka, 2K and 4 X. I can also set it up to tell me exactly what frequency is being broadcast, which is what I mostly use. We do agree that when the detector goes off, our feet come off the pedal first. There is no doubt that the V1 is a good detector but if you read the reviews, most do not now favor the V1, for whatever reason....even the Valentine sight no longer refers to any. They are now selling, at extra cost, a remote smart type cord, that is standard with the Escort. Want to have a speaker jack....extra. Standard on the Escort. It just seems that Mike Valentine is living a little off his past....there was a time when the V1 was clearly better but I don't know if that is the case. And I base this on the reviews of his product, and I know that alot of those reviews are probably a little biased depending on who gives it, and on the features offered. The bottom line is do you beleive in your detectors ability to protect you and obviously we both do. Let's talk about what oil to use next.

Uhhhh, yeah. You'll get no argument from me--any detector is better than NO detector. The V-1 is still the cream of the crop and as many "test" and "review" websites as the Escort/Passport people can buy-off to persuade the ignorant will carry little weight with me.

If you ride with folks who have FRS/GMRS radios (and non-V-1 units) then you'll know for sure--based on real life usage. If you go to gatherings of RIDERS and look at the dirty bikes in the parking lot (with 100-K's of miles on the odometers) then you'll know for sure--choices based on years of real life experiences. "Follow the money" on those reviews you read (in magazines and the web) and you'll have your eyes opened yet again.

I just bought Leslie her own V-1 and had both of ours upgraded to POP mode (and hers repaired) with a minimal turn-around time. After riding with many folks who used to use other detectors, I'm a customer for life! thumbsup.gif

My badge.

Just kidding, real just kidding, in fact it is against department policy to that and I got a ticket in the great state of Georgia. If I am wrong I am wrong. Most LEO will not miss with if you under 10mph, school zone not included. I do write until 15 over.

I'm not questioning that the V1 is a good detector, but that the 8500 X-50 is just as good or better than the current V1. I ride with some who have th V1 and others with the Escort ....if you have the H.A.R.D system, as alot of us do, the arrows are meaningless, especially if you have your detector remote mounted. As for paid for endorsements, I suspect that does happen as I alluded to earlier, but I've never heard anyone suggest that Motorcycle Consumer News has taken that track. And the amount of features the X-50 has ,I suspect, influenced the conclusions of the testers, not just it's ability to detect. As for service, I've never had a problem, even when my fault. When I used to travel to Cincy, I could drop it off for testing or wharever and pick it up the next day....free.

I'm considering updating my detector too and have a question about displays. I currently have a detector that has an adjustable blue LED display. I use it only in my car and very often in daylight the display gets completely washed out and imposible to see. I never had this problem with many generations of older red LED detectors. I'd like to be able to see the display both in my car and on the RT in full daylight. Is red LEDS the way to go (the escort can be had in red or blue)or is my current detector just a POS? Your opinions are appreciated!

You mean those dirty bikes with 100-k's of miles and their V-1s, Autocoms, and Russell seats? wink.gif Time is a great teacher.
