How to clean throttle bodies?

I'm wondering if anyone can share the proper cleaners to use inside and out for cleaning the throttle bodies. I was thinkng carb cleaner for the inside & WD 40 for the outside grime but I am also wondering if you start the bike up and spray the carb cleaner into the airbox to clean the insides of the intake tubes/throttle bodies or if you just get the throttle bodies off and spray carb cleaner in them and wipe as good and as carefully as possible. It's all new to me. TIA
