Airhead R100GS shaft refitting problem

A friend of mine has recently had his GS-ADV totalled and whilst he is waiting to get that sorted by the insurance company he is trying to get an old R100GS back together. He is currently stuck trying to fit the shaft into the bevelbox. He has mollied the splines but they will not go back onto the FD bevel-box.

Does anyone have any sage advice or secret knowledge to help with the problem?

I've been told, "Just wiggle it about a bit, it should slide right in". Something about holding it upside down and such. I think your tongue has to be between your teeth just so whilst chanting SOB,SOB quietly as a mantra.

I need to get my shaft fitted with new greaseable U joints and experience the same joy. :dopeslap:

Andy:

Call Bob Clement at Bob's Motorwerks 406-445-2044 in Roberts, Montana (Quite a time difference) BMWMontana@AOL.com He's an expert airhead tranny rebuilder who also know about rear drives and driveshafts. Plug: He does great work. Good luck.

Ah, I forgot to close down this issue. The shaft went in after the requisite swearing threshold had been met.

Thanks for the thought,

Andy
