bmweerman
I just learned this and thought I would pass it on. I know this works on my Blackberry 8700 and I think some other mobile devices too. Go to... google.com/gmm Not only do you get google maps optimized for for handheld devices, but Google also uses a form of triangulation using cell towers to roughly calculate the position of the device even in the absence of GPS. The best part of all though is the splash screen that warns.. "Do not use while driving" "C'mon honey, steer from the pillion position while I play with my, ahem, Blackberry." ROTFL Link to comment
Joel
Works on my 8830 pretty well, but slowly. Now I know where the nearest Verizon tower is. :smirk: "Do not use while driving," eh? Maybe they shouldn't call the output "driving directions" then. Link to comment
russell_bynum
If your device has a GPS, and your carrier allows the GPS function to talk to 3rd party apps, Google Maps uses the GPS and gets pretty darn accurate. It works great on my 8310 with ATT. Link to comment
Joel
OK, now I'm at home, which is well off the beaten path (25 miles NW of Fort Collins), and it says my position is "within 5000 meters." Link to comment

Thanks! That may be just the justification I need to buy that Bluetooth GPS widget. Link to comment
