Free credit monitoring

I'd heard about the class-action settlement with TransUnion Corp, and read an article about it some time ago, but the stupid article didn't have any instructions as to how to go about getting it.

Then the Sunday paper today had another article, with instructions. TransUnion breached consumer privacy by selling information to marketers. In a settlement, it agreed to provide a choice of three options to anyone who had an open credit account (credit card, etc.) at any time between Jan 1987 and May 2008:

1. Share in cash settlement

2. Six months of free credit monitoring, plus a reduced share of cash settlement.

3. Nine months of free credit montioring, and no share of cash settlement.

My newspaper recommended option 3, as most of the cash is projected to go to attorneys (to nobody's great surprise, I'm sure).

So if you want to participate in this, you go to www.listclassaction.com and fill out a short form, which took me about 5 minutes.

I don't know of any reason you wouldn't want to go there and pick one of the three options, although if there is, I'm sure one of you will enlighten me.
