Lone_RT_rider
What a wonderful and successfull first event we had in Maggie Valley! We made it home just shy of 1 PM after having breakfast at the Pisgah Inn with the ATL crew (and Bernie too!). We hit a bit of rain up on the parkway coming home, but that was about it. I will follow up with pics later. I am flexing the bandwidth as we speak with the uploading. Thanks to everyone for showing up to our first event. Matt and I think it worked out great. At this point, we are going to gauge reactions and decide what to do for fall. Shawn Link to comment
Huzband
Rolled out at 5:30, & five hundred uneventful miles later, in the garage at 1:45. Shawn, you & Matt did a GREAT job. Thanks for all your hard work, & congratulations on a huge success. Link to comment

Slumgullion
Great job Shawn and Matt thanks! I got back at 3:30 the ride to breakfast was some of the worst fog I've ever rode in very difficult to see. We lost Hank on our way their however I spoke with him about 30 min ago and he got back OK. johnt650
I arrived home about 2:40. The ride home was uneventful with the Charlotte area crew; after we left the Pisgah Inn, the weather cleared quickly as we went down 276. Thanks for well organized event, hopefully there's a fall repeat. Link to comment

OoPEZoO
First off.......Did anyone else get a performance award traveling back up 81 today??? I think I must have counted no less than 20+ police cars on my trip home. Apparently today was the day that the VA state patrol was having "Operation Cruise Control". At least thats what the officer informed us of. Don, Perry, and I all ended up with matching $131 speeding tickets for going 79 in a 65. I don't think he actually had a snowballs chance in hell of really tagging all 3 of us at exactly the same speed, but its not like we were in the mood to argue about it. He obviously knew we were just passing through and wouldn't be around to fight it. Oh well......Its been about 2 years since my last one, so I guess I was due. Other than that......We left at about 6:15am this morning and I pulled into the garage at 4:30pm. Not too bad for a 600 mile trip. Shawn and Matt......awesome job. I had a blast and definitely look forward to doing it again Link to comment

tallman
Most excellent event. Thanks for the work that made it so easy for the rest of us. Beth and I split from John on the northside of town and arrived home safely. All rural backroads, some of them had our name on them as no one else was using them. We did pass a trailer queen, in the pouring rain. The trailer was open, so the bike was being subjected to all sorts of weather conditions and the guys driving the truck looked like they were crying. Beth waved, but didn't take their picture when we passed them. No sense ading insult to injury. No Interstate, no performance awards. But, we did give a Georgia State Trooper a chance to be a very nice guy, which he was. Apparently they wanted work zone speeds even on a Sunday with no work going on. We took his flashed high beams to mean, be careful, it's raining, have a nice day. So we did. Pictures and ride tale, eventually. Beth took 200 pictures on one road back in the woods and anothe 200 at other times. I'll need some time to pick out a few. Link to comment
Matts_12GS
Just back in to the barn, 500 relatively uneventful miles, no performance awards but 3 broken tie down straps along the way. When the last one went 5 miles from home I decided to ride it in. Thanks to Shawn and the scouts, thanks to everyone who helped out and especially, thank you to everyone who came up and shared the fun with us. I'm definitely in for a fall event! Link to comment

DGShaffer
Made it! Thanks guys, I had a great time as usual down that way. I managed over 2100 miles since leaving the house on Wednesday. I'm tired, sore, and cold! What fun.... Link to comment
itchybro
Bummed I missed it. Had to go to Atlanta for Springsteen and Ikea duties. Looks like everybody had a safe, good time. That's always good. I only missed one Paseo, I reckon this was my missed one. See you in the fall. Link to comment

Joe Frickin' Friday
First off.......Did anyone else get a performance award traveling back up 81 today??? No, but I did get a written warning from the Ohio SP on the way down last Wednesday. Had me at 80 in a 65, and along with my license and registration, he took my visa card (Ohio requires out-of-state violators to post bond before leaving). I did everything according to Pilgrim's advice; I'd like to think the trooper appreciated my interest in his safety and my own. I even went as far as asking if we could move twenty feet off of the paved shoulder just to get away from traffic, and then I stood there watching upstream while he went back to his car to process the paperwork. Since he took my visa card I figure he was serious about giving me a ticket, but then changed his mind after seeing all my gear, all the lights on the front of the bike, and my concern about roadside safety. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. And speaking of gear, let's just say that Olympia's new "Radioactive" line of painfully-bright yellow jackets appears to be the hot fashion item this season. All the cool people are wearing one; I think I counted eight or nine in attendance, including my own. Left Maggie Valley just after 8 this morning, rolled into the garage just before 5. Not a bad average speed. Rained a little bit in the twisties on I-40, but that was it; the rest of the day was cloudy and comfortably cool. Had a great time this weekend. The forecast kept calling for a large dose of crappy weather, but for the most part it never really materialized. Shawn and Matt, thanks for all your hard work! The hotel had a great atmosphere for socializing, and the food - especially the catered dinner - was fantastic! Mark/Bob/David/Andy (and Shawn), I enjoyed riding and hanging out with all of you. Nothing on the calendar until this fall, so I'm looking forward to the next BRR event... Link to comment
TyTass
Terri & I are home after many stops along the way (ohhh, surprise me there!). No performance awards or broken tie downs. We have some pics that we'll post later. I can't thank Shawn and Matt enough for all their efforts. It's a lot of work. We had a great time and I can't wait until fall ... so I'll probably head back before then. Any takers? Link to comment
TN_R_Girl
Matt & Shawn ... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! It was a wonderful gathering!! Pulled into the garage at 7:15 ... you can all thank me for your rain-less trips home as the bad weather managed to follow me almost all the way home!! Ron_B
Arrived home about 15 minutes after the sun disappeared below the horizon. Mr. Sun was right to hide his head in shame, he sure didn't do his job today. Oh well, that's what Gerbings are for. A nice, leisurely ride home anyway, and hardly any rain. Thanks Shawn, Matt and anyone else who had a role in putting BRR 1 together, you all did an awesome job. It goes without saying that I always enjoy seeing my friends at these events, in fact, the wonderful roads are just the icing on the cake. And to those of you I met for the first time, it was a pleasure. Link to comment
Matts_12GS
I want the record to reflect that when Shawn and I throw a party... We throw a party. The Blue Ridge Rendezvous at the Rendezvous restaurant and lounge. Live music, no cover! But just down the street... Those low rates may be hourly! Thursday Dianne and I rode over the Cherohala with TyTass and Teri to meet Shannon, Allan and Deb for lunch. We found Danny, Shawn, Mitch, and Tom there as well. Since we had some extra time on the way over, we detoured down to Bald River Falls since Craig and I seem to have the same waterfall fetish. It's a pretty fall, and we decided that we needed to get closer to the action so, we climbed up the rocks to get some new photos. Thursday night, there was a little dinner get together to celebrate one more trip around the sun for Marty. Friday, a few of us went up on the parkway and did the obligatory stop at the highest point We rode down to highlands for lunch and then Shannon, Ltljohn and I headed south to Warwoman and 28. Some rain kept the cameras in the saddlebags, but overall it was pretty. Imagine it... Be happy. Saturday Dianne, Shannon, Danny, Craig/Teri, and Keith headed down to the Fontana dam and came back in a bit of rain which at least helped keep the bugs easy to clean off! Saturday night's dinner was very good and then out came... Raaaan doesn't seem to mind though. I think Shawn was glad that the stress of the event was pretty much over We had a great time and are looking forward to getting back up the valley! Link to comment

Quinn
Fantastic event. The motel staff--heck, the whole town--were friendly and helpful. Even the weather cooperated. The closest I came to rain was fog with some drops in it. Shawn, Matt, thanks for a well-planned, logistically perfect time. You even arranged for all these wonderful people to show up so I could meet them. Oh, the ride back was uneventful. I rode due east on I-40 and chased a hole in the cloud-cover without ever catching it; but no rain. Everytime I'd see all the cars on the other side with their lights on, I'd think that my luck had run out, but it never did. I think the BRR magic afterglow carried me through. Link to comment

magicscott
Everyone, I had a great time down in Maggie Valley with you all! Thanks for the hospitality, good drinks, and superb roads. Dr. Bob was right about you folks! Next time I'll try to give a little more notice as well as bring more folks from the Wash DC area. After riding 550 miles, I made it back to Gambrills, MD (near Annapolis) around 5 PM. I took 81, rode through a few showers, and saw 5-6 cops getting their share of the economic stimulus package. Thanks again and if you are ever in the DC area please come calling! Cheers, Magic 2004 Pewter 1150 RT Link to comment

HandyAndy
Well I finally made it home at 11:00 pm on Monday! The first part of the trip on Sunday was perfect! Took all the back roads I could find and even managed to find the "tunnel of death" that last years un-rally pied piper group found. Stoped and made my lunch at this little place. Well I just couldn't resist having lunch in Canada! Covered about 550 rain free miles and ended up in the middle of W.V. for the night. Woke to heavy rain and put off leaving untill 9:00am when it had cleared a little. Jumped on the interstate and made it to a rest stop in northern PA. when I noticed that my front tire had finally gotten really bad! So after an hour of calling around I located a tire in Erie PA. By the time all was well with the tire again it was dinner time and I treated myself to a steak! It was about 6:30 before I was on my way, but at least I would miss the rush hour traffic in Buffalo and Toronto. I had blast with Marc, Bob, and Dave as we tried to keep up with Shawn and Mitch! At least I know why my tires wore so quickly! Wait a minute! Where did Shawn go? Oh yeah, he is off in the trees..... taking pictures, honest! I had a great time meeting everyone and hope to do it again ! Thanks again Mat and Shawn! Andy. Link to comment
