Whip
The true story of Billy the Kid and The Lincoln County Wars as told to us by Ms Beverly from the Lincoln County Visitors Center is really about justice denied, bribery, corruption, greed and in the end, left with no choice, good men forced to take the law into their own hands. I didn't know any of this when the trip began. I was also surprised to find out how easily one of my ridin partners could be influenced by these revelations. The very idea of a lawman using his gun and badge for personal gain is beyond my comprehension. I would soon be educated. Tiffany was being herself before the weekend in question... The ride to Ruidoso was uneventful......other than me having to go back and get my phone....and then catch up to eddd and the Lawman. Our digs.......the up hill view. ...the down hill view. It wasn't long before the rest of the posse arrived. Our backyard. The signs were there....I just wasn't payin attention. Here the Lawman lectured us on speeding, safe riding, and the lack of justice in society today. The next mornin we started our tour of Lincoln County. The day started innocent enough. Mr Chris Olson....me......Billy(Lawman) First stop, Ruidoso Downs and the Hubbard Museum of the American West. Our Lawman was distracted????????????????????? Next to the Hubbard.... A lot of the things I've seen and experienced in life could now be explain. The Lawman was conspicuously absent during Beverly's very informative discussion. Hard workin good men murdered by good cops gone bad. This is when I shoulda see it comin.........we found our own Lawman hangin out in the Dolan House . The very man who paid the lawman of the Lincoln County Wars to kill the owners of the competition. This is not my Lawman......I don't know if it was the Aliens or the ghost of James Dolan. Ya ever see the Stephen King movie Christine?????????????????????????? Lincoln New Mexico was very depressing to me. Another sign of things to come...... Where did our Lawman go???????? He's only in a hurry after we fill up????????????? In the mornin I could hear the Lawman lecturing edd on our unsafe riding, speeding, disrespect for traffic laws, and how "one miscalculation could do me in", he thought I was sleepin. The first 400 miles home went by without incident. We stopped in Ozona for gas, a nice place, with nice people workin hard. There seemed to be a lot of competition on I-10 for your bidness. I think there were several gas stations with a couple miles of the one we chose. This is the only explanation for what was about to happen. We prolly hung out in the parkin lot for about 20 minutes. I didn't notice at the time, but the Lawman was very nervous and antsy while we talked and geared up for the last leg of the trip. We pulled outa the parking lot and headed east. As we got up to speed I saw those flashin lights we all dread so much. I looked in my mirror and noticed the police car was zeroing in on the Lawman. After getting our Lawman's attention the officer escorted Billy back to the gas station we had just left. I followed em back with eddd on my 6. What followed is somethin I'm very ashamed to tell ya about. Our own Lawman had stolen gas from these fine people and attempted to flee the scene. While he was bein forced to make restitution I was outside tryin to keep him from being arrested. "Officer don't believe a word he tells ya, he's been doin this all over Texas and New Mexico" "Especially if he trys to tell ya he's a Texas Lawman" "I don't want to see any preferential treatment here, handle him just like you would any perp" "Billy I did the best I could, but these fine officers have a few questions for ya" Billy........."I'm very sorry I..I..I... really didn't mean to drive off without payin" Me............"I told ya not to believe a word he says" Officer...."They tell me this is not the first time you've done this" Maybe I should get a lawyer...... Hey Whip.......your not gonna tell anyone about this are ya?????????? No.....not me..........I wonder if Tom's home yet??????? I think Billy(The Kid) has learned his lesson and is back to normal now. I'm sure glad because the world is better place with him keepin watch over his county(Shelby). I know I was feelin a lot better...... A special thanks to edd for takin most of the pix........I was laughin too hard. Link to comment
Woodie
ROTFLMAO! "I don't want to see any preferential treatment here, handle him just like you would any perp" I can just hear the drawl as he delivers this line! ...with friends like these, who needs enemies! Link to comment

Firefight911
Whew, it's a good thing it is lunch time or there would have been coffee all over the place. . . Instead, it's diet coke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whip, I need to talk about moving your way. I'm missing out on all the fun. Damn, I would've loved seein' the photo of the "perp" cuffed and being put in the back seat of that cruiser. I can hear it now, "Lawman, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and WILL be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to shut the hell up. I advise you exercise this right. You have the right to a lawyer. He can't help you right now. . ." Way to go Billy!!! Thanks for the info on teh miscreants we have around here Larry! Link to comment

Lawman
Phil, I had already decided to take the nice policeman's advice when he told me I had the right to remain silent. There is absolutely nothing I could say that would not be used against me so all I'll say is let's talk about something else like the 153 m.p.h. maximun speed that is on Whips gps that was put there when I attempted to make legal pass just prior to this gas stop.. And the expired registration that he intentionally hid from those kind officers..You know people who live in glass houses should not walk around naked... Link to comment

Billy I'm shocked and amazed at your callous disregard for the law. I hope you learned your lesson and have turned from your life of crime. I'm tellin' ya brother, it's no way to live. Lawman
I put my credit card in a slot and the gas pumped..That's what I always do and this is the first time I've been arrested. I'm hesitant to accuse anyone of harassment and stereotyping a bunch of bikers but it is what it is.. Link to comment

I'm hesitant to accuse anyone of harassment and stereotyping a bunch of bikers but it is what it is.. BS......There was no credit card slot. This was an old time nice place where people have faith in their fellow man. Where your word is your bond and a handshake means more than all the paper in the world. I'm sure that's all changed now Don't make me drive back to Ozona and take a pic. Still your friend.... Whip Link to comment
tobyzusa
Still your friend.... Whip Now see, that's what I'm talkng about. Still someone around with moral fiber, willing to forgive a brother who has gone astray, and hopefully lead him back to the fold. Billy, there is still hope (however slim) that you can be rehabilitated. I'm routing for ya. Link to comment

Does no one even care that I could have been killed in a head on collision when this guy refused to let me make a legal pass even to the point of reaching speeds of nearly 200 m.p.h. It's probably good that I fell back in behind him as I'm sure he would have probably swerved into my lane had I not shown the wisdom to allow him to prevail.. Link to comment

As a witness to the above mentioned attempt by lawman to pass Whip... Let me set the scene: We are traveling south in New Mexico on US 285. Just as we cross into Texas, Whip displays a little enthusiasm for being back in our home state. He waves his hands in the air like he just don’t care! This is followed by an “increase in speed of travel”. Lawman also whoops it up a bit with similar arm motions, and his own “increase in speed”. Whip is rapidly disappearing down the highway due to his speed. Billy is also quickly disappearing, but it is primarily due to the cloud of carbon-laden smoke spewing from the exhaust of the RT. Now, I’m not saying that Billy dogs his RT... It could have been that the BMS-K unit was slightly out of adjustment, right? Or maybe some sub-standard New Mexico fuel?? Link to comment
