Bob Palin
Some of you have been to see the eagles in the huge nest by the road in Teasdale, unfortunately the male eagle was electrocuted on a power pole recently and one of this years chicks has already died. The power company is rapidly modifying the poles to try to avoid any further problems but because of the closeness of the nest to the road and new houses it's thought unlikely that another male or couple would occupy the nest. I have no idea what might be done but if anybody has any ideas on how to help the remaining eagle and/or attract a new mate or couple please let me know. Meanwhile please stay away from the nest, it makes the parent eagle very nervous when people stop to take pictures and she needs to spend her time hunting rather than guarding the nest. If you have pictures of the eagles or nest perhaps you could post them here (I'm looking for mine) Link to comment
Calvin (no socks)
Terrible news. I was thinking of them the other day, and was telling some friends how large the nest really is. I have no pictures. Link to comment
Whip
Sad news indeed. Pix taken at Torrey 13 with my old camera. Link to comment
Woodie
Nice pics! No birds nesting here this year so far FalconCam This is across the street from my office, so I've occasionally seen one or both flying around the tower. My personal bird of prey is a pair of red-tailed hawks who nest near our house. Sadly, their nesting tree from last year was taken down, and I haven't figured out where they're nesting this year. I have pics at home, although they're not as spectacular as either eagles or falcons. Link to comment
Marty Hill
Very sad, thanks for the pics Whip. Link to comment
stubble!
So sad. Is there a bird-rescue outfit in your area? Not sure what they'd be able to do though, other than perhaps stocking the area with varmints. Our impact is so huge. Sigh. Link to comment
Kathy R
I'm so sad to read this. It was a thrill when I was shown those beauties on high years ago. It struck me as odd that they invested a nest along a road. How many years did they nest there Bob? Isn't there a local specialist on endangered species and or eagles? Link to comment
