SteveHebert
We had a great day yesterday with the most professional organization I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The instructors of Gryphon Group were all very experienced "super ninjas" in either the military or a police force. The owner of the company was our chief instructor and really spent quite a bit of time with us. This company believes in up front, in your face EFFECTIVE training that most of us in the military have not had. The company I am working for paid for a three day course for us to attend. These guys really did a great job tailering the course down to that time frame and packing it full of useful info. Days are very long, about 14 hours each so far but man are my eyes open. Today is AK-47 and M-4 familiarization. Flying starts tomorrow. If any of you are security specialist, you may want to give this company a look. Link to comment

tallman
That is some sobering stuff. Do you get to wear earplugs during Disaggregated Terminal Ballistic Drills: ? Glad you're getting the training, hope it is not needed. Link to comment
SteveHebert
Ear protection and eye protection is mandatory. We learned how to add extra field expedient armour to our vehicles and such today. Most of us and everyone else thinks that steele is the way to go. Well it isn't. It is heavy and ineffective compared to 7 newspapers folded tightly and wrapped with tape, or 2 phone books with a piece of rubber in between. 2 feet of water will stop almost all rifle fired rounds as well. That AK-47 blasted through the steel plate and took some of it with it to create a hole the size of a fist only 4" behind it. The paper items stopped it before exiting. Very eye opening! If you find yourslef in a bad place, grab a phone book or bible that you can find in almost all hotel rooms and put it over your heart while running like heck out of there. Link to comment

lawnchairboy
So, my statistics books actually are USEFUL... who would have thought~! Link to comment
SteveHebert
Which stats do you speak of Chris? Here is one I will throw out there. Over 33% of the deaths in Iraq over these past 5 years have been from vehicle accidents. That is unbelievable! The simple act of not putting a seat belt on or not knowing how to drive in that environment. This 3 day course we went through was very scaled down as I should not be driving over there. The mobile security force program is much longer and much more invloved. Simply training our soldiers in courses like this could save 1 out of every 3 lives. Link to comment
lawnchairboy
I was referring to its ability to be a bullet stopper... Link to comment
