ericfoerster
Well folks, the Big Spring refinery (In Big Spring, Tx) just blew up. 38 miles from here and it felt like someone ran into my home with a truck. There is a huge plume of smoke coming from the area. I am sure there had to be loss of life just from the force of the explosion. No calls for mutual aid at this time. I am sure I-20 will be closed as it runs right next to the refinery. The refinery is Israeli owned and it's Presidents Day...hmm, I hope it's just an accident. The refinery pumps gas and fuel as far away as California. The price of fuel will be going up, I am sure of that. EDIT: news now says all employees are safe. One in the hospital. Nothing short of a miracle Link to comment

Firefight911
They just ran out on every street corner in the US and raised the price of gas by a nickel!!! Glad everyone is OK! Link to comment
Les is more
Wow! That a blast of that force left only one injured--there are a number of people there counting their lucky stars today, I'll wager. Link to comment
MNCruiser
Somethings doesn't sound right. A blast that rocks walls 20 miles away, in a plant that employs 170 people. Even on a quasi statutory holiday, there must have been a number of people on site. Hard to imagine no fatalities. Link to comment
