Suppressing Embedded Audio in Web Pages?

Is there any way to selectively suppress embedded audio when loading a web page? (Firefox and/or IE 7.) I can't seem to find any way to control that attribute. If I have to hear that brat tell me about a free Ipod just one more time I swear I'm gonna lose it...

I don't know which you're talking about. Are they Flash-driven ads or something else?

Seth, sure is.. Just hit the mute button on your key board (if you have one)..

There is probably a way to stop streaming audio from loading but that might effect other audio functions on places like U-Tube & the like..

I just hit the mute button & all is good..

Sure was a PMO when I clicked on CBS NEWS and a Viagra started blaring about erectile dis-function at work. Now I just keep it on mute, avoid CBS at all costs, and unmute if I need to.

I'm often impressed by how well online ads are targeted these days.

Not necessarily Flash-based, just an embedded html command to play an audio file. Quite commonly found on amateur web pages, often an obnoxious midi file or something.

What?! Not using Opera?
I might be soon.

BTW I would rather not simply mute the system audio entirely as I like to listen to (my own) music in the background sometimes. Was looking for a more elegant solution that would disable only audio embedded in web pages.

Well, for Firefox, you can try Stop Autoplay. (It says in the notes, actually, that it now stops Flash audio, too.) I haven't actually used it, but I may give it a try now.

It's the Flash ads that blare out that strike me more than anything.

I also came across the userContent.css solution suggested here A similar tactic should be able to work in IE. That, of course, won't address the Flash issue.

That one just cracked me up...

It would work better if the thread wasn't started by someone trying to sell you an iPod.

I don't hate iPods, although I admit not sharing the same fascination as many.

And the Stop Autoplay plug-in seems to work perfectly, thanks much.

Seth, well if you want permanent try__

Internet properties,, then Advanced,, then scroll down to (play sounds in web pages) & remove the check mark.. That should kill the auto audio play (hopefully)

Ah, thanks Bill. Now I have a way to get rid of it in both FireFox and IE. I had looked for such an option, don't know how I passed over it.
