On Saturday, DVD weekend, I will be riding to Lone Pine and Independence with a stop over in Manzanar. On the way back I will probably take the Snow Route back (East of Big Pine) to Beatty providing it is not snowing. Thanks for posting this up. I had never thought about taking 168/266 before and looks like it makes a nice loop with the 190 instead of just coming back the same way.

I've done that route several times, including one winter run where the 168 was impassable by moto at the "V-notch" on the Westgard Pass (exit before dropping down to Lone Pine at Hwy 395. That year had ice to the extent that we dismounted our bikes and tried to walk it without success. We ended up backtracking to Hwy 264 (through Dyer) and looping south on Hwy 6 over the Montgomery Pass to Bishop. That made for one long day of riding!
