David Sharpe
Recently, the tachometer on my '04 1150RT began functioning intermittently. On the ride in to work it works. On the ride home it doesn't. Sometimes it doesn't measure RPMs at all. Once it pegged at 4k RPMs. How do I tell if the unit is bad or if some connector is loose? All other electrical features on the bike work. Thanks, Dave Link to comment
David
It CAN be a sign of a failing Hall Effect Sensor. Link to comment
David Sharpe
Is there an alternate way I can get tach readouts? I would like to do a 30K tune up. Link to comment
KMG_365
"Ken H." recently bought a device that will let you read the fault codes if you hook it up to the diagnostic connector under the rear seat. I suppose if that reads a fault it could be the sensor, but if there is no error codes set and the device reads fine but the cable still doesn't show correctly it would tell you where to start looking (i.e. a bad cable). Whatever you find out, be sure to share it with "Boffin"! Link to comment
David Sharpe
I took my bike to the dealer to have them fix the problem. Turned out it was corrosion in the tach connector. They cleaned out the corrosion, added in some dielectric grease and it works. Link to comment
