tbloomq
Could be some interesting changes to BMW's product line... BMW motorcycle unit to acquire Husqvarna MOVERS MARKETPLACE by Bloomberg 07/23/2007, 16:26 [international Herald Tribune] Bayerische Motoren Werke has said that it plans to buy Husqvarna Motorcycles from MV Agusta to add lighter, sportier bikes to its lineup. BMW, the world's largest maker of luxury cars, and MV Agusta agreed not to disclose the purchase price for Husqvarna, originally a Swedish brand and now produced in Italy, BMW said Friday. "With the numerous sporty Husqvarna models we can stretch our offers to younger consumers more quickly than with our core brand alone," said Herbert Diess, who heads the BMW motorcycle unit. BMW said it planned to maintain Husqvarna as an independent company. Husqvarna makes about 12,000 motorcycles yearly and employs 240 people; BMW builds over 100,000 motorcycles a year and has a work force of 2,800. BMW's motorcycle division reported pretax profit last year of 66 million, or $91 million, on sales of 1.27 billion. It is the largest European manufacturer of motorcycles with engines larger than 500 cubic centimeters. [2007 International Herald Tribune. Provided by ProQuest Information and Learning.
