Doug 55
Hello All, April 2007 was a test of the cliche "when life hands you lemons make lemonade". Early March I was surprised to be laid off (aka "RIF'd ) after 25 years in the widget business including 15 continuous at a critical medical device company. There was sugar for the lemonade re severance, PTO cashout etc. so after a few weeks of recovery, start job search and such I took off from the Seattle area for a road trip to the Southwest. This was not a typical leave your worries behind road trip since I was working the job situation daily via cell and laptop but "road time is good time" that allowed seeing great sights and meeting wonderful people. A brief update before jumping into the pix though; despite all the stress and concern of the "RIF" situation I ended up, post trip, back at my old job on a contract basis and also finding it "stressful but good" surfing an amazingly hot local (?) market for tech jobs so hopefully good times ahead ! Any-who ... back to the main topic ! I thought the part about "those who do fall seldom survive ..." extreme understatement A shlushy morning surprise in Flagstaff ! Some of the road names definitely said "Wild, Wild, West" ! "One week after the warranty expired" "Nature, the best artist" Ya-ya ... I know I bring twice as much stuff as I need ... I just never know ahead of time which half is which Gottfried from Germany - shipped his Guzzi over to ride the US coast to coast as celebration of his 65th birthday ! * oops * something is glitching with smugmug (or my mouse clicking thereof) and it's getting dang late so that's it for now ... hope to add the last chapter tommorow ... if not I hope y'all at least enjoyed this part of the adventure ! Carnadero
I noticed on the route map that on the homeward leg, the indicated route seems to indicate that you skirted the eastern shore of Owens Lake (Keeler). Did you have an encounter with blowing dust? The stuff that rises off the dry lake bed poses a potential health problem, depending on how much of it is whipped up. Link to comment
