Ok tech guys got a question/fix a problem for ya.

I'm on the bike anywhere from 2 hours a day to 5 hours when I perform funeral escorts. I'm getting a headset installed into my helmet with a boom mic. I need something like a communication collector where I can plug in my work radio (Kenwood Tk 373g), cell phone, MP3 player and possibly a portable CB radio yet only have one wire running to the helmet.

Here is what I've found... http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=29

Is something like this what I'm looking for? Yes I have no idea what I'm looking for, I just know what I need it to do.

I think the J&M would work but Autocom would also do what you want with the an asterisk on the CB because the CB interface through Autocom can be problematic. Other than that, it does an outstanding job in integrating audio devices. Their headsets are also first rate with great fidelity.

The J&M will work, but if you don't need the 2-way intercom and such, it may be expensive overkill.

What you are looking for it sounds like is an audio mixer. There are a number of them, but this one comes to mind off the top of my head - Mix-It

Basicaly, ya that what I'm looking for I guess. The main thing is my work radio has to be able to work with it. I guess I'll have to email them to find that out.

A couple of things make be believe that the Mix-it won't work in your application, and that you will need something from the Autocom/Starcom/Baehr family of solutions.

First is you want to use a cell phone. The Mix-it won't help with that.

The second is that I'm guessing that whatever headset you are getting for the work radio is not going to work with the Mix-it (or anything else). It's likely a Kenwood headset, with audio direct to the radio, along with a PTT switch. Your final solution is going to have to replace that piece of the puzzle (as a Autocom/Starcom/Baehr would). You should definitely verify what kind of headset you're getting with the radio. If you'll post that info here, it'll help.

The Kenwood radio appears to use the same connector as the Kenwood FRS units, so getting a cable for it shouldn't be a problem. However, I've never heard of anyone running a commercial UHF radio on Autocom/Starcom/Baehr - you'd better check for potential interference problems if you pursue that solution.

Ya after going over their info I see that the cell won't work. As long as I can get a cable that can go from my work radio to the "connection box", I can get what ever head set will work for that box as long as it has a PPT button that I can mount my the handle bars.

Well the Mix-It definately will not work. It is pretty much for conntecting audio inputs only. So I won't be able to talk through it.

Here is the email I got back from StarCom

Thank you for your mail.

The TK 373G uses CAB-01 cable and you should have No problems.

You would need starcom1 advance SH006 + cell phone cable IC-PHO + CAB 36

( Garmin cable) + PTT-02 and CAB-01

Still waiting for AutoCom and J&M Motorcycle Audio to get back to me.
