BlueRidgeBoy
Each year I order my annual tune-up parts from BMW. Last year my gear oil was labeled “Synthetic Gear Oil, SAE 75W140, Super Synthetic” the oil was black and the part number on the receipt was 07-51-1-469-906 ($12.29/qt). This year my gear oil is labeled “Full Synthetic Gear Oil, SAE 75W140, Super Synthetic” the oil is red and the part number on the receipt is 07-51-0-395-257 ($16.25/qt). I’m afraid my Hall Effect Sensor will quit sensing, my final drive will quit driving and my speedometer will stop speeding. Seriously, I’m not that concerned but I would appreciate any thoughts/wisdom/knowledge about the color change and the part number change. Just for reference BMW’s non-synthetic gear oil is labeled “Hypoid Gear Oil, SAE 80W90 GL-5, Special Performance”. The part number is 07-51-0-412-042 ($6.19/qt). Link to comment
