Miriam
We’re having a pretty good summer in western Europe, so lots of trips, rides and travel! We were in Austria last month. Maybe nice to share a recent trip or vacation shot if you have one? Waiting for … … the parade to pass. Link to comment

RickP
Didn't get to go to Gunnison, but eventually Plan D evolved: A must see if you're in the area... When it's too hot on the road, get off... And when you come upon 2-multicar accidents in a half-mile maybe it's time to call it a day. Link to comment

Global_Rider
We were in Austria last month. Yes Miriam, I know and the following pics are exactly the reason why I couldn't make it up to St. Johann i. Tirol to meet you. My Corsica tour ran almost two weeks later than planned. By the way, who else was there? Here are a few pics... As close as I have been several times, this was my first time over to Corsica and I'm sorry I put it off that long. The ferry ride over on Moby Lines from Livorno, Italy to Bastia, Corsica was an enjoyable 4 hour voyage on the Mediterranean Sea. Enroute, the islands of Elba and Capraia were visible. Coming into the port of Bastia, Corsica... I chose to take most of the out-of-the-way roads. Why they painted a line down the center of a road this narrow is beyond me. The views were spectacular, the roads narrow and twisty and traffic was practically non existent on this series of roads. This was taken on the D5 near Lento in northern Corsica... A daily occurance was the forming of clouds on the back side of the range just west of Bastia, but just during a certain time of the day. This was taken while on the D5 near the town of Lento in northern Corsica... The west side of Corsica is mountainous along the coast offering twisty roads high above the Mediterranean Sea. This view of the town of Porto was taken from the D81... A little further down the D81, a view over the Golfe de Porto... Despite the hot temperatures in June, one extremely happy rider. This was taken on the N196 west of Bonifacio and is a view of Cap de Roccapina... Bonifacio is at the southern tip of Corsica. A short ferry ride can be taken to the Italian island of Sardinia from here... I'm definitely going back for more! Of course I rode the usual Alps and took a few pics, but Corsica was the highlight of this years tour. Link to comment
Chunky
We've been having a heatwave in central Oregon with 104-105 degree days. The only relief for those of us without air conditioning is a trip to the beach. I rode to Cannon Beach near Seaside, OR to experience a cool 62 degrees. I shot this photo a week ago but it's still the same beach. Link to comment
Timmer
Started out this spring with two new fawns born by the creek behind our house. Started down the road by our place - never got more than 10 miles from home. Stopped by a nearby winery to smell the Lavender A view of Sonoma Mountain, grasslands, native oaks and vineyards - pretty typical for this area. And a couple of Villas just up the road. Yuppies come here to build Italian villas - for the $$$$ they spend it would be cheaper to buy the real thing in Italy. Not much of a ride, but its always nice to just get out. Link to comment

JamesB
A few weeks ago, I flew from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Seattle in a 1975 Fournier RF5B motorglider: designed by a Frenchman (Rene Fournier), built in Germany (by Sportavia) and powered by a Limbach engine (aircraft version of a VW bug engine). If gives me another reason to ride my '05 R1200RT -- to the airport. Flying at 1000-2000', we flew across Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montanna and to Washington State. On the way, we flew through Sturgis, SD. I tried to find Sturgis just by looking for the reflection of chrome on the horizon -- but still had to use a map. Well, GPS. At times headwinds were so strong that U-Haul trucks towing cars (!) were passing us on the highway below. MPG: My '05 R1200RT gets 50-54mpg at 70-75mph. The RF5B Sperber ("Sparrowhawk") gets 24mpg at 80-90 mph. But, as in this picture, we shut off the engine and feathered the prop at 3000' feet, used thermals to climb to 10,000' and flew about 40 miles cross country using no engine or fuel at all. kzz
When were you in Corsica, what were you on and do you have any pics to post? The love has begun in '93, a fresh driving license under my melt, a borrowed Volkswagen Golf (Rabbit) and we left the ferry in Bastia. I was fighting with the - new to me - twisties, stressed the wheel with white fingers, when I heard a knock-knock on the window. A local escorting us on a naked bike showed me to pull the window down and he gave us an ad of a camping nearby. Then he shifted down and smoked us. I had had a heavy scooter background but I didn't beleive my eyes! That moment took me back to the path of motorcycling. Merci, Corse! '99. The return. A heavy loaded Suzuki DR750S, two-up. Two weeks in the heaven. Altogether I spent almost a month on the island, I saw almost every corner. My favourites have been. Porto Calvi Bonifacio Monte Cinto Calacuccia Asco Cap Corse Castaniccia ...and so on, the list is endless. :-) Corsica is the real beauty, a motorcyclists' heaven, I would recommend it to anyone from my heart. Unfortunately I just have printed phtos from that time and I can't post 'em without heavy scanning. cheers, kz Link to comment

bart_vanreeth
I was in Corsica 2 years ago. After 30 years of intensive travelling through Europe and North Africa I found it an overwelming island : l'isle de beauté : it didn't steel it's name. I'm going back for sure. Your pic of Saint Florent on your web site shows the clouds rolling over the mountain from Bastia, a typical scene. I was on the D105 and D5, taking the backroads back to my hotel in Saint Florent when the winds suddenly picked up in a big way and so did the flow of clouds as I drove through them. By the way, the Hotel Maxime in Saint Florent has garage parking for motorcycles as well as having some of the cheapest rates. Link to comment

Global_Rider
This is a pic that I will keep forever. I hope my son gets to ride this area! Fantastic, incredible pic, Steve. That looks like the "old" St. Gotthard Pass road. Where was your pic taken from; the faster road that runs alongside it? Taken while on my 2002 tour... What differences. Over there, a pass road actually has some twisties and twitchbacks to them. From what I've seen of pics taken in the Rockies, the roads going over passes are as straight as an arrow...at least nobody has posted otherwise. Link to comment
