Factory 02 RT with NO emissions equip??

Was there an 02 RT anywhere in the world that sold their bike new with NO emissions equiptment? (CAT,02 sensor, charcoal can, etc.) Has anyone removed all this stuff on an RT and what were the results in performance?

Also, is there anywhere in the U.S. that requires a motorcycle smog test to register your bike?

European standard '02 has cat and O2 sensor but no canister.

If you wan't to improve the performance of an RT you will get very little bang for your buck. A course at a track school will make all your bikes faster. Dumping the marginal OEM shocks in favour of quality after market shocks makes a big difference to handling.

 

If you want to go faster than that, consider a KGT, KRS, R1100S. The RT is very limited in terms of outright performance due to its weight and the restrictions of the cylinder head design.

Chris,

Tucson and Phoenix require annual inspections for bikes (hopefully this will end by 1/2007 for Tucson thanks to HB2357 being signed into law a year ago). I have no emissions stuff other than the O2 sensor (which is pretty much inactive at idle anyway) on my two Motronic bikes and neither of them ever comes close to failing the test.

All RTs worldwide have a catalytic converter.

 

If you remove it you'll at least think you have better performance.

 

But you won't.

 

And we'll all have dirtier air to breath for it.

 

Want more performance out of a RT? Learn to ride it better, then, maybe, upgrade the suspension. Out of the box the RT will out preform 90% of all riders who ever get on one.
