Krolroger
Hi, I need to flush out a pair of second hand fork sliders (R1100RT) prior to putting them into service. What should I use? Fork oil is probably too viscous. Would hot soapy water be OK? Thanks again. Link to comment
Boffin
I wouldn't use soapy water - too much risk of rust later. 5 weight fork oil is like water, but I would use either meths or paraffin. B&Q sell meths in handy drink-sized bottles, my local garden centre sells paraffin for greenhouse heaters. Andy Link to comment
davescycle
I have used diesel fuel in the past, it cleans well and leaves a light surface coating that does contaminate the fork oil. Dave Cycle Link to comment
CTRBLNCD1
I would think a cleaner like parts or brake cleaner would suffice to cleaning out the old lube from the sliders Link to comment
John Dickens
Petrol or paraffin? Gunk or Jizer washed out with water then sprayed with WD40 to stop rusting? Link to comment
Eckhard Grohe
Petrol, not good.... Leaves the surface too dry. Link to comment
