What Muscle Car Did You Lust For?

I had two but way out of my budget back then. First was a 66 396 Powder Blue SS Chevelle. The second was any year or color 427 Ford Cobra. How about your dream muscle car? Did your dream come true?

Always a fan of the 428 Cobra Jets, but if I can only have one, the 302 Boss Mustang makes the cut.

Once I learned of the Ford Thunderbolt , that also became a target.

Alas, I've not owned a true muscle car, though having a Ford with a 390 as a first car at 15 years old did ruin me for lesser engines, even if it was a wagon.

67 GTO, though when I look at it now, the headlights look way big.  It's purdier in my memory

69 Super Cobra Jet-----its all in the eyes, I think its the only year where the eyes were "olived" (my term), 68 is close, but not like the 69

1970 AAR 'Cuda, sassy grass green. Saw one when I was 12yo or so at a place in Warsaw Indiana called The Classic Car Center, loved them ever since. I'm not really a muscle car guy, I prefer exotics more but I would still take a 'Cuda, Buick GSX, AMC Rebel Machine, if I ever had the opportunity and the space to keep it.

1967 Corvette with the L88 motor.  My affinity for the C2 Corvettes began when I was 11 or 12; I managed to find myself in possession of a Hot Rod Corvette magazine, published in '77, which I still have today.   :dontknow:

In the 1980's I used to own a 1969 Chevy Nova. Unfortunately it was a straight 6. Although it was easy maintenance. I did help a friend sell her 1972 Chevy Nova with the 350 V8. Darn if I only knew....I should have bought that Nova....it was sold in less than a week!

A friend had his dad's '70(?) Nova with the 307, not a great motor, but it had the 3 speed floor shift manual, I thought that was cool.

I'm a Mustang guy, that's a sweet one

It would be a toss up between a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang or a 1970 Camaro Z28 split bumper. There is a guy that lives on my street that has a 1970 grabber blue Boss 302 that makes be drool everytime he drives by. That said, I'd rather drive my 2017 Mustang GT still has a little of the muscle car feel and sound but more horsepower and modern car convenience.

The 69 Mustang was always my favourite year closely followed by the 70. I ended up with a Mustang ten years newer.

I'm way younger than you guys.  So, I was about 17 when Grand Nationals were big.  Not really sure if this would be considered a muscle car?

Always wanted a 1966 Z28 Camaro

I had a 1971 Camaro that came with a 307V8. Kind of a dog. Engine died and replaced with a 427. It was not a dog. Had to shoehorn in and even made some cuts in the engine well to fit.

It's enough to make a 'vette tremble.

Anyway, I was 17-18 when the grand nationals were around, but still, first love was that 69 Mustang,......then again, the fastest production vehicle of '78 was a favorite of mine too.

Go ahead, laugh if you want. That's the car I wanted. In the mid 80s I had a chance at buying a couple of them, cheap. A Plum Crazy for sale in my hometown for $2500. Another not too far away, Lemon Twist 426 Hemi for $5k. Didn't pull the trigger on either and missed out. Super valuable cars now.

I had a '96 Chev Impala SS and now a '22 Mustang Mach1 HP.

Nothing to laugh about, they kicked ass in Nascar until Bill France said enough! I always liked them as well.

Uh none? My first car was an 1968 MG and my heros were Colin Chapman, Jim Clark, and Dan Gurney. Muscle cars of the era had terrible handling with engines that twisted their frames and suspensions into knots. Go like hell in a straight line and that's all. I never wanted any part of that but I can understand others did and do.

Had a 1969 429 Ford Galaxie 4 speed.

Then a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 383 manual

Then went to a movie..Vanishing Point...had to have and secured a 1970 Dodge Challenger.

If only I had those today. Dream ride was Plymouth Superbird in Yellow, never got it.

I worked in Kansas junkyards for four years to get through school. Anything I wanted was mine. Built a 53 Chevy with a 426 Hemi. Back then, you could not get the adapters for a beefy enough transmision which was the cars Achilles heel. But it was such a fun car.

The Buick engineers made a bumper sticker that said," I brake for Corvettes" so I'd say it's a muscle car.

It was the first real muscle car of the 80's, a machine dedicated to its motor. It started the resurgence of horsepower in cars.

I definitely lusted after them. An old high school friend bought the GNX right when it came out, still has it, low miles buts get driven. It's not seen weather and he's refurbished it twice that I know of, because, GM quality.

Same thing here, a guy at work bought a grand national new, I think the car has like 18k on it.  For me, that'd be such a waste.

When I was about 8 years old my brother had a buddy (Bob Miller) who had a two 1964 corvettes.  First one was red convertible and the 2nd was a silver coupe with the 327 fuel injection.  He and my brother did the "Route 66" think twice, once in each Vette .... New Jersey to California.   Bob used to come over to visit and I would spend hours sitting in the Vette!   He would occasionally take me for a spin.   Then later when I was about 14 my neighbor bought a 1965 coupe with he 396 big block 425 HP in Nassau blue and side pipes.  THAT was killer.  So since then I have been a Vette guy and as soon as I get a bigger garage one will be in my garage.   Don't really care about year but NOT a C4 or C8 and I can't fit in a C1.   I realize the HP in the late 70's and 80's was poor but I don't mind.  My lusting would be a 1965 .. coupe or convertible as that was the year they offered disc brakes.   If not a Vette it would be a 1966 Chevelle SS396 4-speed Nassau blue of course.
