Bernie's Annual Penguin Ride to Lunch on 1-1-2024 @ 11:30AM

This is maybe a new event for this group, but it is something I done since 2001. My local club (BMW-NEF) had a member (Alan S.) that organized this annual event to show off the great riding weather we have in NE Florida to his northern friends. Since Alan stopped organizing this event years ago, I continued it making my own New Years Day Rides and lunch and used to invite some local riding friends to go along, if they wanted to.

So last December I decided to have lunch in Baxley, GA and send a short message out to some of the guys and a few showed up to have lunch with me on New Years Day of 2023.

So, I decided to just throw it out there, for any one that wants to go ride on New Years Day 2024 and are close enough to Baxley, GA to meet me and anyone else that shows up for lunch at 11:30 AM on 1/1/2024 at Tequilas Mexican Restaurant for lunch, weather permitting of course. Maybe we start a new tradition, what better way to start the New Year then to do something we all love, go for a ride and have lunch.

Bernie… The Houston club does the same thing. We have a day trip on New Years Day to Galveston for lunch. If anyone is interested ping me.

Just called the restaurant to verify that they will be open New Year’s Day for lunch and they told me that they will be open their normal time.

I wish everyone a Healthy and Safe New Year! I hope you can make it to the Penguin Lunch on 1/1/2024, and I will see you at 11:30 AM for lunch.

Put new front brake pads on the son's Tiger today so he is riding with me tomorrow. DyAnne chickened out.  See everyone in Baxley tomorrow.

Haha, didn't consider you late but after most had left, Mike, Ron and I were chatting and a gentleman from Augusta rolled up on an Airhead he has been riding for 40 years. Great chatting with him.

Didn't take a picture of my coffee stop, Circle K is not very picturesque but they do have fresh ground coffee!  Did take a photo in Telfair GA, kind of a neet memorial for service members from the town who made the ultimate sacrifice. Saw quite a few motorcycles out for the first ride of the year. 30 degrees when I left at 0730 this morning but 66 degrees when I left Baxley.  Great to see everyone lucky to be able to make a 360 mile ride in January. Thanks to Bernie for setting up the penguin ride!

I remember that spring loaded side stand that would fold up on you in a hurry if you weren't careful.  I always used the center stand....didn't trust the side stand,

I want to know what time Bernie leaves on the morning of these rides, where he has time to stop for coffee, twice, including enough time to eat a sandwich during one of the stops?   Then have enough room to eat a full meal at lunch.

I pulled out at 6 AM this morning. Didn’t sleep very well, due to fireworks till very late into the night.

I would like to thank everyone that made it today. The weather turned out great also.
