Dealer Oil Change

Recommended Posts

I received this ad from my dealer suggesting it’s a special on-sale price to change oil and tires. I can’t imagine paying this price for either service. By comparison to a $249 oil change on the bike, my GM dealer charges $79 to change oil and filter including tire rotation. My Tahoe holds 8 quarts. They use premium synthetic. Coincidentally I’m planning on full round of all fluid change this weekend. I can do it all in about an hour.

MC oil about $13 a quart, $52…MC oil filter about $15…Total $72

Regardless of the other items checked, that is a bit over the top in labor charges. It doesn’t cost any where near that on a gasoline car or pickup.

$199 labor to install 2 tires is again, a bit over the top. That would be more in line what it would costs for 4 car/truck tires mounted & balanced at Discount Tire.

I realize that dealers need to make a profit, but this is basic work that doesn’t require a highly skilled mechanic/technician.

Name brand tire shops here (car/truck) are half that - about $25 per corner tax included. I can see paying $50 per end on a bike, but $100 per end does seem high.
