'97 R1100RS mystery hose -- old battery breather?

Hi all,

I recently got this '97 R1100RS and there is a hose dangling below the bike. I removed the fairings to figure out what is on the other end of that hose and it isn't connected to anything. It was sitting somewhere below the battery, so I'm wondering if it's the breather hose for an old battery (see photo). Does that sound right?

 

The current battery is an Exide gel battery, so if this is just a battery breather hose, I can just get rid of it, is that correct?

Hey dirtrider, thanks very much for taking the time to respond! Definitely needed that confirmation before I just started ripping hoses off my bike : )
