CaseyB
I have an idea, but it might be a dangerous one, so I thought I'd ask here. My 1996 R1100RT has an erratic fuel gauge, for the last year of riding it I've tried to determine the cause. THis year doing maintenance on it I opened up the fuel tank and discovered that the yellow wore to the fule pump plate had high and variable resistance. Doing a little searching online I found this post. I have the exact same issue. So the different idea I have. Instead of threading a screw through the plate, why not connect the gauge ground to the fuel pump ground in the tank? They come together at the connector anyhow. Saves the creation of a potential fuel leak point. Am I missing something? Thank you for your help with this. Casey Link to comment
CaseyB
Then again, maybe an easier way would be to just connect a ground wire to one of the screws that hold the plate on. Link to comment
Joe Coastie
Ground wire from the pump plate to the negative post on the battery fixed mine. Don't forget to put a quick disconnect connector in the wire for future tank removal. Link to comment
