Please help identify this part...

Vehicle: 2011 R1200RT, K26, 0440.

 

I purchased this bike a few months ago and am working through some maintenance items.  I just finished reassembling the rear drive after dismantling it to lube the driveshaft splines.  Upon completion, I discovered this renegade part lounging on my work stand.  I have no idea from whence it came.  I'm sure I've not seen it before.  Hmmm.

 

Is it a Beemer part?  Did it fall from the sky?  I've attached some pics.  Can anyone help me identify it?  Thanks

That looks like the final drive vent cap.

See if it fits snug when you reinstall it.  If It's loose you might be better off replacing it.

Those are special (vent) caps that allow final drive venting but do not allow moisture or dirt to back-enter the drive so make sure that it is in good shape & not cracked or damaged,  & that it seals well.
