Rougarou
Everything is thievable,.....most already have insurance to cover theft, so why add the slight deterrents to the mix. Bike gets stolen, do the minor inconvenience of insurance claim, upgrade to newer bike once settled. Link to comment
dirtrider
Quote The video is a little long but shows how ineffective most the devices are. Morning David Most anti-theft devices are not ineffective but they are mostly all defeatable (sp). If the intent is to be 100% effective then that is not going to happen. But if the intent is to slow the thief down, or make the thief (or thief's) look for an easier target then each anti-theft device has it's own merit. Any of the defeated devices shown in the video were obviously defeated, but any of the shown devices used in conjunction with the factory fork lock would have added more complexity & more time for the thief to deal with. At least as far as a simple roll-it-away goes. Obviously none of the more common motorcycle anti-theft devices will prevent a thief with a fork lift, tow truck, or 4 guys in a van or pickup truck from simply hauling it away. A multiple theft deterrent approach such as a brake lock, chain/cable though wheels, locked forks, in conjunction with a loud horn or siren attention getting alarm (that it, and it's wiring, can't be easily accessed) will prevent a lot of quick simple roll-aways. If a thief really wants your motorcycle then they will stalk it, figure out what anti-theft devices you usually use then come prepared to defeat those devices. If you use non-common (ie homemade) anti-theft devices that are not obvious to eyesight then the chances that a thief will come prepared to defeat go way down. But if someone wants your motorcycle bad enough they will just come with a large van or truck & some friends then haul it away. 2 Link to comment
