2023 Ramona Days is on!

Time for our annual spring event continue on March 17th, and 18th 2023.  Big change for this year is we will be staying at the San Vicente Golf Resort instead of the Ramona Inn .  There prices and level of quality don't add up so time for a change.  The San Vicente Resort host two restaurants  so we won't go hungry and eating on site will continue our side stands down/ belly up rule.  I've secured a block of three  King bed room and four, two queen bed rooms.  Call 760-789-8290, option 2, and use my name Todd Johnson, to reserve a room.

The ride will be 225 miles in the beautiful back country of San Diego County.  We will have side stands up at 9:00 on the 18th.  This is an all day ride with lunch midway somewhere.  Everyone is welcome.  Reserve early as the resort will sell out.  Try to buddy up in the queens if you can.  I wasn't sure how many would be able to make this so call ASAP!

See ya in the spring!!

Looks like all the rooms I banked are all spoken for. If you don’t have a room and still want to go I’d call the resort ASAP to see if you can secure a room. The resort will sell out before our event.

Just an update, there is still one double queen room left under our reservation block.  This event will be lots of riding in some very beautiful areas of San Diego county.  The company won't be bad either!  Come on down!

Any thoughts on mountain road conditions?  Will silt/sand be a concern?

This week snow / ice is the road condition up there.  CalTrans has chains required on CA-79 from Santa Ysabel all the way down to Interstate 8.  Without any more rain, I'm sure it'll mostly melt off by the time we're up there.  But I'm guessing we'll see some dirt and crap left on the road not to mention pot holes and broken asphalt.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.  I guess we'll all be more gentlemanly than last year...(read, 'boring').  Of course, it won't slow down Groanup & Carl!

That's awesome, Todd, thank you!!!

Update to my previous post.  CalTrans removed the chain restrictions on CA-79 with a warning to watch for snow on road.  So, it's progress in the right direction for us.  :18:

Rob, According to the front desk it does have a view. Interested in a swap?

Ride report:

Reviewed our ride today.  Sadly I think we will have to omit Mt. Palomar speed race.   There are just to many corners with snow in the shadows.  At 5,500 feet, I don't think it will melt in time.  The only other caution is Hwy 79 up to Lake Cuyamaca. Some water across the road in places.  Snow on the shoulders and some sand.  I will be leading so it will be at a cautious pace.  Temps at the 4,600 summit were a sunny 45.  I have lunch reserved at the same place as last year.  Gas will be at the 150 marker in Anza Borrego.  Please fill up in Ramona before you put the bike to bed.  The original ride was 239 miles but will be less now with no Hoon ride.

Should be a hoot at the resort.  They have a full service restaurant and a cool sports bar.  Even some fun happenings for Friday night.  Side stands up atg 9:00 AM

See ya all Friday!

I will be keeping my eye on the forecast.  The past few days have predicted rain up here and in Ramona for Friday.  Sunday is iffy, more rain after that.  I may cancel, unfortunately.

I think we need to start the discussion on the possibility of a rain out.  The forecast I see calls for rain Friday and Saturday for San Diego County.  Of course that could change but what are everyones thoughts on rain?  I don’t think we will see snow.  Do we plan on a ride no matter what or do we wait until say Thursday and make a decision based on the best forecast?  We could always just hole up in the sports bar and drink ourselves silly as a backup.

This is what Weather Channel is forecasting for Ramona for our weekend.  I'm good with riding it out and if it's real bad Saturday, hang out in the bar or figure out something in town or the closest casino.  A little rain never hurt us before.

I love Todd's backup plan, but I am having serious doubts about going down.  Is there ANY CHANCE of postponing this a week or two later?  My youngest daughter's 30th birthday is the 16th, and my granddaughter's first softball game is the 18th.  I was originally willing to miss them both for the Ride, but, if it's not going to be as good a ride as last year, that would not be a smart choice.

We don't have anything in May, either...

I'm starting to worry about the April ride happening, what with all the weather in that part of the state.  I just wish Mother Nature would keep my desires in mind as She makes her decisions.  She can really be a bitch.

The resort is booked months in advance. This is a very popular destination especially in the spring. I’m making the commitment to show up rain or shine. (Remember Oakhurst several year ago.?  We all survived). Wet or whatever I’ll be there. Ride your own ride.

Not to distract from Todd's organizing this event, let's keep the politics in the Full Throttle forum people.  Although I agree, I don't get what this has to do with Ramona days.

I am not going, but not because of weather.

My advice?

Adjust your gear, not your plans.

But you do you.

Quick reminder.  We are planning on having lunch at the same place as last year, The Lake Cuymuca Resterant and store.  They won't do seperate checks so bring cas to settle your lunch bill
