MichiganBob
Hi, i decided to do the 12k maintenance on my 2018 1200 rtw. Pulled the oil filter and there is a lip at the bottom of the filter mount. Is that supposed to deflect oil away from the engine? Never came across that before on my beemer twins. Link to comment
MichiganBob
Cleaned it all up and see that it is just part of the casting. Cool. Link to comment
92Merc
One tip you can do when changing the oil filter out, use aluminum foil. You basically wrap it over the exhaust, cover the O2 sensor, and tuck it under the oil filter area. You shape the part over the exhaust to form a funnel. So as the oil drips out from the oil filter area, it flows across the foil, over your exhaust, and into your drain pain. Keeps the mess to a minimum. I can't take credit for this idea. But after I read it hear, I always do it. Keeps oils off the exhaust. Much cleaner job. 1 Link to comment
MichiganBob
Thanks 92 Merc. I spent 6 bucks on Amazon for a flexible draining tool that you can shape as a sheet, spout, or funnel. It worked well. 2 Link to comment
