Puig Touring Windshield

Has anyone installed a Puig touring screen on a 14-18 R1200RT or 19-20 R1250RT? The part number I'm looking at is 9512W. That windshield is made to fit a wide range of years and models (K1600 GT 2011-2019, K1600 GTL 2016-2019, K1600 GTL GRAND AMERICA 2018-2019, R1200RT 2014-2018, R1250RT 2019-2020).

I read a review on Ebay which scared me. A guy with an R1250RT bought one and said the mounting holes were too big and he had to fabricate custom neoprene washers to make it fit. Wondering if this was perhaps a counterfeit shield or had been modified by a previous purchaser who returned it. I reached out to Puig and they said they hadn't heard of this and haven't received complaints about the size of the mounting holes.

How was the fitment and are you happy with it? I know this isn't one of the popular options so not too many people likely have it. They have some distributors in Canada so it will save me on shipping vs ordering a brand from the US.

I have 2 buddies with Puig shields on their GS's and no issues whatsoever

Their shields for the RT look really nice and in various tints.

Yeah that's what I've been reading as well. I ordered the light smoke version. I'll post a review once I receive it!

The 1200 and 1250 RT wind shields are NOT interchangeable. Different mounting hole dimensions.

I'm pretty sure all the popular windscreen manufacturers only list one model from the R1200 and R1250RT. The exception is 2021+ R1250RT's seem to get their own model.

I checked Werks, AeroFlow and Puig. They all list one model for the 2014+ R1200RT and the 2019-2020 R1250RT.

Correct as 2021 was when they redesigned the  front of the RT

So, I am incorrect? A ‘17 RT windshield will fit a ‘22 RT?

2019 and 2020 R1250RT should be the same as 2014-2018 R1200RT.

2021 they did the facelift and changed the headlights. Am I the only one who thinks the older headlight design looks better? Just wish it was LED

2014 through 2020 RT is the same fitment for the screen. 6 mounting holes in these. 2021 and 2022 have a different screen, with 4 mounting holes that have a rubber bushing inserted into the holes before mounting. In no universe are they interchangeable as delivered. There have been some successful hole drilling efforts, but those are above most skill levels! There is a slight difference in the radius across the screens too.

I received the windshield today, it looks nice. I'll post up some pictures shortly. I'm a bit confused right now. When I put my bike details in on Puig's website (2019 R1250RT) it said 9512 was the model for my bike. This is listed as fitting a large range of K1600's, 2014-2018 R1200RT, and 2019-2020 R1250RT. It does look like it will fit, it just has two extra holes which will be hidden. However, I read in other forum posts that guys with R1200RT's are running the 7525 model. That is the model their website suggests if you put in your bike details as 2014-2018 R1200RT. That one doesn't have the extra two holes as it's not made to fit the K1600's. This seems like it would have been better for me. I can't tell any difference from the pictures and it has identical dimensions. I emailed Puig asking them if maybe 7525 was discontinued and what the difference between the two windshields are. They told me they are both in stock but they are for different bikes...real helpful reply. I sent them another email asking for the more specific differences as they're both listed to fit the 2014-2020 R1200RT/R1250RT.

I did some more searching. FortNine and Bayside Performance are the only two Canadian websites I can find who sell Puig windshields for our bikes. Both sites only carry the 9512 model which I bought. I just don't understand why Puig would make two models of what looks to be identical windshield that both fit the 2014-2020 RT's 🤔

Maybe buying the 9512 model is better for resale if I ever get rid of the bike. More potential buyers since it fits more models.

I've had the Puig screen on my 2018 RTLC all winter. It's slightly taller and wider than stock and gives far better wind protection, and being that bit taller negates the need to raise it at all for general riding as I did with the BMW screen.

I've found no distortion looking down through the screen and the light tint looks good on the bike. Fitting is simple and straight forward with all holes lining up, and the screen is stable at higher speed.

Thanks Steve. Could you confirm if you have the 9512 or 7525 model?

I asked my local dealer if they can get the Puig 7525 and they told me their supplier has that on back order with no ETA. Seems hard to find that one. I wonder if its being phased out. Would be nice if Puig would explain the differences between the two models.

Still haven't heard back from Puig but I took some measurements of the 9512 windshield I purchased. It will work but I'm wondering if the 7525 would be a better fit.

The center mounting holes on the OEM windshield are 8mm in diameter. PUIG #9512 has these holes drilled at 9.5mm. The collar on the bolt is only 7.4mm so you get a lot of slop in the fitment. Sent another email to Puig on their main site rather than the US site. So far their customer service hasn't been very impressive. This windshield will definitely work, but if the 7525 offers a better fitment I'd rather get that one.

I have a Puig #9512 for my 2015 R1200RT. The sheet that comes with it states that it fits '14-'20 RT1200RT, '11 and up K1600GT & GLT. Overall, it fit well, and I like it.

Puig does not show that they have a model for the R1250RT. But, do have models for the R1250GS and R1250GS HP.

From what I've found, Puig just isn't aware of the fitment of their products. Model #7525 fits 2014-2018 R120RT, which means it will fit the 2019-2020 R1250RT as they are the same. But they told it will not fit as my bike has 8 mounting holes. That's not correct, the 2019 R1250RT has 6 mounting holes, the same as the Wetheads. Anyways, I sent them a bunch of measurements and they thanked me for my feedback and said they will forward the information. They measured the diameter of center holes on the 7525 model for me and they are 9mm.

With that being said, I couldn't find a 7525 anywhere. I bought the 9512 model which just has a couple extra holes in it (hidden once installed) because it also works with the K1600 bikes. I wasn't a fan of how large the 2 center holes were drilled. They are drilled at 9.7mm but the shoulder of the OEM screws is only 7.4mm. From my interpretation of the design of the windshields on these bikes, the 2 center holes are responsible for centering the windshield. These two fasteners have a shoulder on them and the screws become tight before they actually put any pressure on the screen. The top and bottom screws are the ones that actually tighten down onto the shield (no shoulder on these).

I widened the diameter of the shoulder up to 9.5mm for a better fit. I took some 6mm diameter heat shrink I had laying around in the garage and cut it into strips the length of the shoulder on the screws. I used needle nose pliers to stretch it out to fit over the shoulder. It took 4 or 5 pieces on each screw to reach the correct diameter. It fit very well after this modification eliminating any play in these center screws.

Got out for a 90 minute ride yesterday. The temperature varied from 4 degrees C down to 1 degree C. The wind protection is much improved. I'm 6'0 tall, 33" inseam, the bike has risers installed, and I ride with the seat in the low position. It definitely took the wind off my shoulders and eliminated that turbulence on the helmet. I like that they use high impact acrylic to manufacture these rather than plastic. I also think the shape of this shield looks better than the competitors. The customer service from Puig is slow and it took a ton of back and forth to get them to answer simple questions.

In contrast, Terry from Werks was awesome with any questions and communications. I'm sure his windshield provides even better wind protection from what I can see in the design. I saved a lot of money ordering the Puig as I'm in Canada and was able to get free shipping on it. I also prefer the shape and material of the Puig shield. I do wish it came in different heights. I believe it's 27" which is quite tall. I would have preferred a 26" just for appearance but it works great so I'm happy.

Well it LOOKS great.   And for me the 27" would probably work perfectly at 6'3" and 34" inseam.  May 26" Works is +/- 26" and I need just a tad taller as I prefer not to have it raised very much.  But the Werks Quiet ride works well enough to not need changing at this point.   Thanks for the detailed info.  Oh and I like the tint ... which was the primary reason I chose the Werks Quiet ride.

I forgot to mention the model I installed is the light tint. They also have a dark tint and a clear option.

And it looks great !!

Thanks, I agree. I'll have to test it out with some night riding once the temperatures improve here. We're having a bit of a coldspell right now 😔
