https://www.donedeal.ie/view/26682492Evening All,

I’ve more or less talked myself into buying this, so I guess I’m on here to get you to validate what my heart is saying, and to join me in telling my head to but out.

it’s a 06 R1200RT with 149,000 kms (90,000 miles) give or take. I’ve been lusting after one for quite a while, and one has finally entered my minuscule budget range.

it looks good to me, and this guy appears to specialise in high milers. I love driving high mile cars, because I feel I’m getting maximum bang for buck.

if anyone here knows of any reason why I should not buy this bike, speak now, or forever hold your peace. 😁

That converts to $4,200 US I believe. IMO, that’s a little high ($) with that mileage. It should be in almost flawless condition for that kind of money.

This is only my gut opinion on it. I don’t sell bikes for a living. :dontknow:

Good luck either way.

The place you linked to says they are bike breakers. In the U.S. that usually means  the motorcycles can be pieced together from different motorcycles.

I also see it has had the ABS removed-- THAT might be good or might be bad depending on how it was done & how the ABS module was by-passed as the speedometer & brake lights go through the ABS module. Is that going to be an insurance problem for you?

That isn't a great price (at least in the U.S. here) so it better be in great shape (is it, & is that verifiable?)

Without actually seeing, riding, & inspecting that motorcycle there is no way to tell you that it is a good deal, worth buying, or will be a lifetime money-pit.

Just keep in mind that the BMW 1200 motorcycles have a lot of electronics & very expensive to replace parts so if the seller is not up front & honest you can end up spending a LOT of money keeping that motorcycle on the road.

It’s a curious point, in that bikes here in Ireland seem to hold their value longer than in the US, especially if the mileage is lower. There’s also not the huge choice as we’re an island with a relatively small biking population. Thanks for your opinion. I’ll talk to the dealer to get a better idea of it’s condition and service history etc. 👊

All very good points, Mr Dirtrider. I will also check out some local forums to get a feel for the seller. I’ve seen other bikes he’s sold, albeit online, and they’ve appeared to be solid. But I would need to have someone more knowledgeable than me give it the once over also.

Yes, if you can get more info on that bike's history, why the ABS was removed, what parts have been replaced or swapped in from another motorcycle, etc then we might be able to offer you a better idea on what your are dealing with.

Let me do that. Or else get a few more €€€ into the piggy bank and buy something with a FSH. Thanks for your help so far.

I just bought (this month) my 2006 R1200RT with 71,000 miles (114,263 kms) with panniers (which I don't see on that bike) and the 49L top box for $3900 USD, with all electrics including ABS and ESA working fine.  Thats just a data point for comparison purposes, since as you say - this isn't Ireland (sadly).

Fine print says all 3 panniers included.
