Selden Posted January 17, 2021 Share Posted January 17, 2021 Cannoli definitely came with the Arab conquest of Sicily, but I am skeptical of the phallic association because in Arabic they are called "Zaynab's fingers," Zaynab being a woman's name. Two years ago I took a course in Arabic cookery, and most of the recipes we worked with, including Zaynab's fingers, came from a 13th century Syrian cookbook. Link to comment
