Tapping noise on start up

My 02 RT has 42K on it. All required and routine service has been performed since day one. I have noticed during the last six months that when I start the bike, especially when cold, it has a tapping noise for the first 5 seconds or less. The sound is EXACTLY the same noise a hydraulic valve lifter would make. Since this engine doesn't have hydraulic lifters, I can't quite explain it. Could it be the cam chain tensioner?? The bike runs great and will recieve the next scheduled valve adjust, TB synch, etc., very soon. The sound goes away too soon for it to be excess valve clearance, IMHO. Thanks for the advice, in advance.

It's the hydraulic cam chain tensioner taking a second to pump up. It's no big deal, but if it really drives you crazy there is an update kit.

Thanks Ken, I was hoping that would be a probable diagnosis. It doesn't bother me enough to tear into the engine, at least just for that. I just wanted to make sure that was a possible cause.
