gettysburg
My wife purchased a T6 Axle Wrench from Ron Ayers Motorsports. The sizes listed are 17, 19, 22, and 24mm. The 22mm portion of the wrench won't fit my R1200RT or my wife's R1200GS. I took the axle wrench to a nearby hardware store and inserted it into a 22mm deep socket and it slipped in with no problem. What could I possibly be doing wrong? Link to comment
Ken H.
Well that is downright weird. That's the exact same one that I have and it fits our R1200GS. Bad sample? What does it measure with a calipers? Link to comment
DaveG
I bought a 22mm tool and it fits my R12RT but not my R12GS which seems to need a 21mm ??????? Anybody know what's going on? Dave Link to comment
gettysburg
Maybe BMW has realized that metric is dead and there phasing in the switch to SAE fittings. Link to comment
gettysburg
Don't have calipers anymore(they fell apart), so I couldn't measure the opening in axle. I measured the axle wrench with guide on cresent wrench and it measured 22mm. Link to comment
Fergie
Just measured my 2006 RT and it was 22.12 with digital calipers. I do not have an allen yet to try. Link to comment
Tucker2930
I bought the same one and mine won't fit my r1200rt. Link to comment
smiller
Or maybe the axle OEM is Getrag and they couldn't keep the tolerance to within +/- 1mm? Link to comment
Lawman
I bought a similar tool and mine wouldn't fit either..I finally found one way that was close enough I could tap it in with a rubber hammer.. Link to comment
Burt
I bought the same one, and it is too big. It won't fit in the axle. Link to comment
92232
SnapOn sells a 22mm allen attachment for a 1/2 inch ratchet. It is listed as for other motorcycles but fits my 2005 R1200RT great. In fact, I used it today. Here is the link. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?...amp;dir=catalog Link to comment

gettysburg
Does it appear as it the sides of this tool are slightly concave? It almost appears that the sides of the hexagonal hole in the axle are slightly convex(curve slight toward the center). Link to comment
Albert
Maybe BMW has realized that metric is dead and there phasing in the switch to SAE fittings. Now THAT's funny. Check to see if the torque specs are in Slug inches^2/sec^2 and you'll know. Link to comment
gettysburg
Stopped into Bob's BMW with the suspect front Axle tool. It fit most of the bikes they had displayed, but there was one '05 R1200RT demo bike for which it wouldn't fit. I've decided to keep the tool and replace the bike. Actually I ordered the BMW part for $15. Link to comment
Ken H.
Sounds like there's a market out there for 21.9 mm Allen attachments for a 1/2 inch ratchet. Suppose I should patent it. Link to comment
farmerp
I went to the local tool and bolt store got a bolt with a 22mm head and two nuts. Jamed the nuts together to turn on and stick the bolt head in the axle.Total cost $0.50 Link to comment

For this you can thank Home Depot and Lowes (and WalMart). Link to comment

Bill Murray
I too purchased the T6 Axle Wrench from Ron Ayers Motorsports and found it would not fit the front axle of my R12ST. I was not very happy about this. I have now asked my dealer to order the BMW tool. Link to comment
Warren_H
I bought a 22mm coupling nut for $5 at the local hardware store after seeing it suggested here. I had to file it slightly to make it fit. Link to comment
