While most of the time the color seems to be yellow, I have had instances where the color is red. Most recently during summer of last year. Link to comment

The red stuff helps identify leaks in the tranmission seals as well as rear drive seals. Other than that, the stuff you buy at the auto parts store is just as good. Link to comment
