2011 GS ADV | LH Cam Chain Noise (very loud) (cold Start)

2011 GS ADV with 130,000 miles.

The LH Cam Chain makes a loud noise for 2-3 seconds after a cold start.

Any suggestions / recommendations to replace Cam Chain tensioner would be appreciated.

The most common approach is to remove the L/H tensioner then see if something is broken or worn in it. But at your mileage I would probably just replace it as precaution.

If the start-up chain noise then stops  then you got it, if it doesn't then you will have to dig deeper & diagnose the root cause.

Thanks DR. I am helping a fellow rider diagnose the problem.

Update:

LH CAM Chain Tensioner removed and nothing was broken.. the OAL of the uncompressed spring was short by 50 mm when compared to the new replacement kit obtained from EME.

Installed everything back and no noise has been observed since with multiple cold starts.

50 mm is almost 2 inches, are you sure on that 50mm short?

Good catch DR, it was actually 5 mm (five mm).
