Going to require NHTSA to link law requiring helmets to road funding to get back to being smart. how the same politicians can stand behind seat belt requirements and let people ride without helmet is beyond me

“It’s funny until someone gets hurt.  Then it’s hysterical.”  Author Unknown.

I’m all in favor of freedom of choice, except in this matter.  Many motorcycle crash victims that suffer catastrophic, unrecoverable, head/brain injuries, end up being wards of whatever particular state in which they reside.  That means taxpayers and the insurance companies are on the hook for these people until they’re unplugged.

The new law says as long as the rider has the “appropriate level of medical insurance.”  Define appropriate.  I have $100k/$300k coverage for injuries.  Lingering around in an ICU bed could blow through that in a couple of weeks.

Very simply this, insurance companies in states with no helmet laws need to state in their policies that they’ll cover the insured as usual if they’re wearing a helmet.  If it can be shown via a collision report that the rider was not wearing a helmet, no payments are to be made.
