When the Road Ends: Lost in the Pacific

In 2015 Dylan Wickrama released his highly-rated book, When the Road Ends. The excellent news is that the film version is about to be released (May 12, 2020).

This is the story of Dylan Wickrama’s solo motorcycle journey around the world, with the focus on what he decided to do when he reached the Darien Gap—that infamous narrow stretch of virtually impenetrable mountainous jungle surrounded by oceans that straddles the border between Panama and Colombia.

When the Road Ends Review 1

Most overlanders freight, ship or fly their bikes over the Gap, but not Dylan. He saw the challenge through different eyes where the Darien could be conquered. So he built an oil-barrel and bamboo raft powered by a scrap of sail and propeller driven by his motorcycle. An odyssey only possible with the help of people he met along the way, innovation, skill and optimism. And with no sailing experience whatsoever, Dylan set off to sail the Pacific Ocean side of the Darien Gap.

This film is simply completely and wonderfully barking mad. The tales told will have you swinging your moods from trepidation, incredulity, to lump-in-the-throat, and moments of laugh out loud humor.

When the Road Ends: Lost in the Pacific was released on video on demand.
