Draftermike
I live outside of Kansas City, wouldn't mind taking a ride to try on and buy a pair of BMW summer pants, but don't want to ride across Kansas. Anybody know of any dealers that stock them that are located near the middle Eastern part of the U.S.? Link to comment
tcshooter
Sorry, saw you want to go east. but if you want to go south http://www.bmw-ok.com/ Link to comment
Ken H.
Mike, Why BMW brand? First Gear Mesh-Tex or Hein Gericke Cargo Mesh, both stocked at motorcylecloseouts here in KC. Mesh-Tex Hein Gericke Link to comment
Iron Al
I'm sure you can get the summer pants at Gina's BMW in Iowa City, IA. They have a great selection of BMW clothing and they'll take good care of you. If you call them, ask for Max, he is the clothing specialist. I have both the BMW summer pants and the Mesh-Tex pants. I like them both. I wear the mesh pants when it is really hot and the BMW pants when it is 50-80 degrees. The BMW summer pants are expensive but really nice. I love all of the pockets and they look nice. I got mine on eBay for a lot less than retail. Link to comment
Draftermike
Hey guys, thanks for the replys. Norm, Oklahoma looks like a winner, haven't ridden in that direction in quite some time. Ken, BMW summer pants, cause I saw some at the Blitz and thought they looked really good and more appropriate for looking normal when off the bike then any cool armored pants I've ever seen. The guy just moved to KC from Phoenix and the light colored BMW pants were his pant of choice for riding when its really hot. I've got a pair of black mesh pants, seems the black REALLY draws the heat, that, and I just don't feel like going in any stores or shopping centers in them because I feel like I'm dressed as if I just stepped out of my space ship. Don't know about all the other pants that are similar to the BMW ones, but was impressed that the material held its shape well. Dropped in on motorcycle closeouts last week. Didn't find any lighter colored pants at all, but then sometimes I can't even find my remote. Al, Now that I re read your post, I see that Gina's BMW looks like a good candidate too. Ebay would be good for a lot of things but I want to know that such an expensive pair of pants like this fit just right before I take the plunge, so in this case I'm willing to pay more to try em on first. One thing that I'm still a bit concerned with is whether they will show road dirt so easily that they never look clean. Al are yours the light color, and if so, is them showing dirt a big problem. P.S. Al, sorry I won't get to see ya at the Ken's tech daze gathering. I'm still fighting factors that might keep me from even getting to Ken's on Saturday. Oh yea, and Al I'm going to PM you with questions on an unrelated subject (your specialty.... phones). Thanks again, Mike Link to comment
Iron Al
My BMW summer pants are the light colored ones. They show dirt just like any other pair of light colored pants. The do wash up pretty good tho. I notice the dirt mostly around the cuffs after riding. It isn't bad after one day but after two or three days without a wash they tend to look (and smell ) a little funky. I don't know if they come in tall sizes. I have the XL and they fit like 36x32, which is my normal pants size. BMW stuff is so inconsistant on the fit. It really would be better to try them on first. Draftermike
Yep, That's happened to me before, got a good deal on ebay on something that just wasn't quite tall enough for me, kept it but never wore it because it just didn't fit quite good enough. Sold a jacket like that on Ebay that I'd worn four times in five years and got 74 cents from the sale. I should have put a reserve amount on it but was ready to pitch it anyway. Link to comment

Draftermike
hi, I am new to all on this riding gear, ( ex cruser) Purpose of pants - protection comfort ? dave Protection, but it's a chore to even think about suiting up if the stuff isn't somewhat comfortable, also my preference is to not look like I just got off of a race track. Riding pants stress resistance to tearing in a skid and have padded knees and sometimes hips. My concern is mainly padding for my knees but I'm just guessing at its importance. Anyone know how frequently knees get injured in motorcycle accidents? Link to comment
