elkroeger
Hopefully you've been staying home and keeping your distance. What have you been up to? Personally, (aside from watching the news...) I got the garden started, and been practicing ("learning" is too strong a word) the ukulele. Some video games and working my way through old movies and TV shows. The Rifleman was great. Now working through Columbo with Peter Falk (awesome insomnia remedy!). I also write my governmental representatives and encourage them to take more aggressive action. I'm sure I'm on some FBI shit list. How about you? Link to comment

I'm happy to say I've been RIDING My current acquisition was in a state of disarray as I was upgrading the handlebars, adding Givi bags, Zumo and various other electronic farkles. But now its done as of last Friday ! Fortunately here in Tucson the weather has been very good . So far I have stayed close to home, but will venture further out this coming week by taking some food and water with me so I can keep interaction with strangers to a minimum. Not so much worried about getting gasoline ... have good, home made hand sanitizer to use after pumping. Link to comment
szurszewski
Been out on the "new" GS almost every day the last week (been within a stone's throw of your place twice - I honked, did you hear me?), did some cleanup work on that bike, been swapping parts between the two S bikes and getting the one ready to sell, lots of home school stuff for the boy, board games, movies, been working on my t-shirt empire website (hopefully someday it will make at least tens of dollars - so far it's just cost me hundreds!), *thinking* about getting the guitar out and trying to play, at least an hour, often two, walking in the woods every day...lots and lots of cooking and baking. I should be doing more reading, but for some reason I haven't been - I'll put that on the list for tomorrow. Have you been giving that new workbench a workout? Link to comment
Rinkydink
It’s been raining pretty much non stop for over a week here. Getting the yard in shape, mowed it when it was really too wet and then funneled new oil/filter in the RT. Got the garden plot ready to go with fixings from my compost barrel. My grandmother always told me to never plant until after Easter, in Arkansas anyway. In my younger days I’ve fudged and planted early and got burned by a late frost a couple of times so I will heed my grandmother’s sage advice this year. I did manage to get a 150 mile ride in between showers yesterday, just to warm the new oil up. Playing my acoustic quite a bit and even got the bass out for a while. It’s been a few years since the 5 string has had me caress her supple ebony fretboard and maple neck. 😳 My fingertips are toast. Grandkids have been with us for a week, 10 year old boy and 20 month old girl. Wow, I’m old. Diapers, whining, no consistent sleep to speak of. At least another week to 10 days until they go home. Somewhat of a child quarantine just to be safe while their mom has to work. I’m worn out!! Did I mention I was old? 1 Link to comment

mickeym3
One good long ride and otherwise taking care of grandkids, today I start the auxiliary teacher’s aide role (I may resort to teaching them to carry the one, at the risk of running afoul of the NEA). Their teachers have done a good job deploying the material so now it’s my turn. Parent/teacher conferences may get ugly but hoping for the best. Also doing my dog walks and runs so at age 70 I’ve got nothing to complain about. God is good, all the time. Link to comment

EvilTwin
Rainy weekend, so I putzed around the garage and opened up one of the paper bags that had some wood I have been drying for the last 6 months. It had come from my BIL up near Richmond. Checked it with my little moisture meter and it showed "Low" so I went at it. I'm not the most experienced wood turner, but I manage. I spent about 2-3 hours working on the lathe Saturday and maybe an hour or two on Sunday, and it's still not finished, but coming along. It's a very therapeutic (not as much as a ride) activity to help pass the time. Link to comment
walton66
As for old TV shows, I found the original Mission Impossible tv series on Amazon Prime. I didn't recall that the leader was not Peter Graves the first season. Also working on this year's garden, converting everything to raised beds to preserve my back for riding and working on a pair of these chairs. Link to comment
Joe Frickin' Friday
Been working on the routes for the Driftin' get-together in SW Wisconsin in June. It's possible that event will get postponed, but that's OK - the routes will keep until whenever it happens. I also installed Totoro on my bike: Hopefully the weather around here will improve soon, and I can get out do some spring yardwork. Planning to order all cordless yard equipment (mower, trimmer, blower) in the next few days. So at some point I'll be dismantling my 18YO gasoline-powered mower for recycling. 1 Link to comment

Or that you think would be particularly good for a very sllllloooooowwww learner? No. I started with two in-person lessons but COVID put the stop on that. I'm doing the Guitar Tricks trial (I am a noob). Seems GT and Jamplay tend to get most recommendations with the edge going to GT for noobs, but who knows what influences the reviewers. BamaJohn
Back on the OP subject: mostly staying home to observe the recommendations; have squeezed in a couple of fairly short rides between rains (it's raining now); eating my own cooking and getting tired of my boring menus; feeding the neighborhood cat that's taken up residency...she does help with the mouse population; watching the yellow pollen cover everything while the trees are leafing out; trying to limit watching "news" to 1 hour a day. An observation: with all the shortages of necessities, one thing is in constant supply.... tv commercials trying to sell us crap we DON'T need. ok, time for my yoga. Link to comment
Selden
I feel lucky that we don't have CATV or OTA broadcasts, so I can't watch the news, although I spend more time than I should on the internet, especially the JHU COVID-19 Dashboard: https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6. YouTube music channels are life saving. Officially, it's spring break for UNG, but I am working on Linguistics and Persian homework. Distance learning of some sort starts next week. My wife asked rhetorically, "Why am I spending so much time on studying Russian?" I told her it's not for the grade, but to prove that at our advanced ages we can still kick the asses of kids young enough to be our grandchildren. Although it's raining today, temperatures near 80 are forecast for later in the week, and I plan to go riding unless the governor announces a "stay in place" policy at his press conference this afternoon. Even if he does, I may say FTC (Fuck the Coronavirus) and hit the fire roads. If a NFS officer stops me and orders me to return home, I will do so, but I haven't seen a NFS enforcement vehicle since the Rainbow People gathered about 6 miles from here in 2018. My wife made three loaves of fresh bread yesterday, and I just whipped up a batch of hummus. Last Tuesday, Dr. Oz appeared in a TMZ video telling Americans that if they are holed up in quarantine with their significant other they should engage in copious amounts of sex as a health measure. https://www.tmz.com/2020/03/17/dr-oz-sex-couples-quarantine-coronavirus-weeks/ Link to comment

Joe Frickin' Friday
In the course of teleworking, my group is using Zoom for online video meetings. During our first meeting late last week, everyone went with the default video capture of themselves, but my wife told me about an option in the settings that lets you add a custom backdrop behind you. No green-screen required, the software is smart enough to know what's "you" and what's "not-you" and paste your background where appropriate. Interestingly, you can even add video clips for the background, as long as you have the file on your hard drive. So for yesterday's meeting, I went with the tropical beach video background. Here's a shot (except imagine the waves and palm trees are actually moving around): It was a hit, scoring some good belly-laughs from the group when I first joined the meeting. Here's a still background I made last night, will be using this for our next meeting: And another one I just came up with: There's a reason I'm not a stage actor. Try to have whatever fun you can, folks. 1 4 Link to comment
